What's HOT in computer scrapping!
By April Anderton Trends come and go so quickly it's hard to keep up. Here are just a few things that have been popping up on paper and computer generated layouts alike.
Bordered Photos
Even the one hour photo has taken to offering these retro borders on black and white and color photos. I am guessing it is at the insistence of scrapbookers all over! They add clean lines and you can go ‘ matless '!

Baseball
Since America celebrates its birthday this month, I thought a tribute to an All-American pastime would be appropriate! Just look at these great baseball layouts! They capture the nostalgia of America 's favorite game.

WHAT'S NOT:
You all know it by now…NOT SCRAPPING is NOT HOT!! SO GET BUSY!
Remember that even elements that are HOT right now can quickly become cliché if overused, so keep your own personal style shining bright while applying these and other techniques.
Of course, the real judge of what's hot in scrapping is what's happening on YOUR layouts, so get to it!

Title of Layout: Two of a Kind
Name: Debbie Fisher
SBB screen name: scrappingmum
Programs used: PSP8 and arcsoft photostudio 2000
Fonts used: Hootie, CK Scratchy, Times and Times Again
Techniques and Credits: brushes used to create backgrounds, inked tag edge and mat edges from inxplicable.org; staple by Gina (CD); backgrounds, photo mats and tag are all my own creation
|
|
Title of Layout: One Week Old
Name: Roseanne Miske
SBB Screen Name: ramiske
Program Used: Photoshop CS
Fonts Used: Allegro
Techniques and credits: I took these photos for friends that just had a baby. They particularly wanted black and white photos. I used some of their favorite shots for this layout, which will be the cover page for the baby's album.
In Photoshop, I created the background using Define Pattern for the stripe and a custom brush to 'stamp' the baby feet. I created all the other elements, too. The layout coordinates with the baby announcement that I'm designing for them.

Title of Layout: Sky Diver
Your Name: Trish
SBB Screen Name: Aura
Program Used: Photoshop CS
Fonts Used: decrepit. carpenter, angelina, antique typewriter, stamped, dear
joe
Techniques and Credits: I wanted a different kind of paper on this one so I
made the stripes, painted a little light grunge on it added an artistic stroke, underpainting. I then rotated it and put it down on the opposite corner, for the other opposite
corners I wanted different colours and a different look and added artistic
stroke sponge to that. I put a stroke of 35 around the pictures then added a layer style to it. Done a line down and across the middle and added a layer style to that as well.
The sky diver tag was made using the light colour in the stripe bg, painted
a bit of light grunge on it, added a layer style to it, made a rectangle cut it out and added a layer underneath and added a drop shadow to it. Done some font work "stamping" with different opacities on the bg relating to the acrobatin the picture :)

All About Me Challenge
Hosted by Honorary Team Member: Carla (aka: Cardee)
Post & View Layouts Here.
View most recent "All About Me" Postings here.
Current as of 7/4/04
I did a layout called I'm wealthy because....
It had nothing to do with money. I decided to make a layout of all the things that make my life richer. The things that would be devastating if I were to lose any one of them. Granted my layout was very detailed, and took me a long time. You don't have to do anything this time consuming. Maybe journal the top 3, 5, or 10 things that give your life "wealth." Many people told me in the commets on my layout that they were going to make themselves a layout too. I'm just giving you that extra nudge. I challenge you to put down on paper what makes you wealthy. You'll be amazed at the things you take for granted. This will be a wonderful "gift" to future generations to see what you valued. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
Don't forget to link your lo here. Many people check here first to see if new lo's have been posted.
Also, post your lo's under the All About Me gallery so they are all together. There is an old archived All About Me gallery, DON'T use that one or no one will see your work! Have fun!
Here's the link to the layout that I did. Hopefully it will help inspire you:

TRADING PAGES
Hosted by Valerie Vaughn It's July and time for another round of Trading Pages! This is the time where players are paired off to scrap one another's pictures. For a comparison, everyone has also scrapped their own pictures!! Also, each designer has answered a few questions to give us a little “peek into their world”. Lets see what they have come up with!!
This month's players are:
Sandy (username Sandyd) and Carole
Here is Carole's creation with Sandy's pics.

1. Describe your usual style.
More and more I am leaning towards my pages looking more graphic and ad like. I like clean lines and bold colours. I have started using self created brushes to make more interesting backgrounds. I love the look of many "paper scrapped" pages but tend not to work that way.
2. Did this layout differ from your usual style, if so, how?
I normally work in 8 x 10.5, this was one of my first 12 x 12 layouts, I enjoyed working with those dimensions. I loved the suitcase that Cora was sitting in, so rather then creating brushes for a background, I recreated the background to look like the suitcase. I love all the bold, bright colours.
3. How long did it take for you to create this layout?
A few hours I think, I had many interruptions while working on this one. Once I came up with the idea to duplicate the suitcase, things fell together fairly quickly.
4. Describe the creative process that led you to put this layout together the way you did?
I played around in photoshop with a variety of background colours and layouts, but nothing was working. I decided to try to work with the 12 x 12 dimensions and copy the background from the suitcase Cora was sitting in. It was a great challenge that forced me to go to tutorials to make the stitching, which I had never use before. Font are desyrel and LD Patty whack. Disney patches cut and pasted from the suitcase. All others done by me.
Sandy's reaction to the layout that Carole created for her:
It is great. I love how she incorporated the suitcase into the background. Great layout of the photos over the background. Borders and shadows really pop out the photos. I love it!
Sandy's take on her own pics:

******************************************************** Here is Sandy's creation with Carole's pics:

1. Describe your usual style.
I would describe my usual style for scrapbooking as more traditional. I like to create layouts using backgrounds, textures, frames and elements. I also like to try to re-create layouts that I have seen in magazines or online. I like to try to create all of the elements digitally. Doing my layouts this way takes me longer, however it is a great way to practice using the tools in Paint Shop Pro.
2. Did this layout differ from your usual style? If so, how?
This is similar to my usual style. I like to use the colors in the photo, and the theme of the photo to make the background and elements.
3. How long did it take for you to create this layout?
This layout took me approx 4 hours to complete. I created the flowers, and rivets myself, and that is what took the most time. I also kept changing the layout of the photos on the page; I could not decide where I liked them the best.
4. Describe the creative process that led you to put this layout together the way you did?
I started by creating the background which was a color taken off of the dress, I then added a plant leave texture with white over top of the pink background. I then cropped and increased the size of the photos. I added a white, plant leaf texture matte behind the photos. The journal box and pink flowers are old paper texture. The flower rivets are paper texture also with an inner bevel added. The font is Imprint MT Shadow with an inner bevel on the name “Sarah” and the “16 months”. The quote came from creatingkeepsakes.com as a poem author unknown.
Carole's reaction to the layout that Sandy created for her:
WOW! This is beautiful. I LOVE all the pink. The background is gorgeous and I love the eyelets and the flowers behind the letters in Sarah's name. The quote is just perfect too! The frames/mats behind the photos are very cool. Thanks so much Sandy, I really love it.

Note on Carole's own layout:
1. Describe your usual style.
This is also similar to my usual layouts.
2. How long did it take for you to create this layout?
It took me about 2 hours to complete.
3. Describe the creative process that led you to put this layout together the way you did.
I love taking from the photo, so I took from the suitcase and created the background. I then highlighted the picture by colorizing Cora and the suitcase. I also cut out Mickey and Minnie and recolored it with paint brushes and resized it to add to the layout. I love how the colors worked. The background is also texturized with a denim texture. I inner beveled the frame and added denim texture to it as well. The title was done in Kristen ITC font, using yellow as the stroke color and red as the fill color. I love how cute this one turned out with Mickey and Minnie

Portions are excerpt from Anna Aspnes' Review:
Computer-generated graphics wonder woman, Maya a.k.a Janice Dye-Szucs, is back with the launch of her third CD, and this time she's joined forces with talented Typographer, Graphics Artist and fellow Canadian, Ronna Penner, to bring you the solution to all your title and word dilemmas.
