One of the sights we saw on our recent trip to Houston and Galveston, Texas. This statue was truly amazing. Look how small my family looks by the statue. Can't see us? Just follow the arrow.
Journaling reads: Just down the road from the Huntsville prison stands the world’s tallest statue of an American Hero. It’s 67 feet tall on a 10 foot sunset granite base. Whoever said 'Everything is bigger in Texas!' must have seen this! The colossal statue is visible from Interstate 45 northbound for over six miles.
Sam Houston was an accomplished statesman who was twice President of Texas, a U.S. Senator for Texas and he helped to make Texas a state. He was also the Commander in Chief of the Army of the Republic of Texas, and served as Governor of Tennessee and of Texas. He truly was the hero of San Jacinto.
(Just thought maybe you would want a little Texas history ... LOL!)
