Featured Font
by and © Tina Chambers

The Featured Font this month is called Beautiful ES and can be found by following this link to dafont.com, a great source for freeware fonts!

http://www.dafont.com/en/alpha.php?lettre=b&page=7

Beautiful ES also comes with a second file called Beautiful Caps ES. Beautiful Caps is what I used here for my capital letters. I created a second text box for the rest of the word and used just Beautiful. The elegant caps are a gorgeous accent and are my favorite thing about this font. Beautiful will make, well, a beautiful addition to your pages this Christmas and throughout the year.

I hope you enjoy it, and have a BEAUTIFUL and memorable Christmas.

Site Swap
Hosted by Amanda

Have you signed up to join the Scrapbook-Bytes.com Swap yet? We are having a lot of fun. Please, come join us!
What is the SBB Swap? Every other week one member is chosen at random to have his or her photos swapped. I will send an email out to all those who have signed up with a link to download the photos and information. If you aren’t able to participate in that swap, that is fine! This is just for fun! It’s a great way to have photos other than your own to play with or to have those tough photos that you don’t know what to do with scrapped by someone else.

Our current swap is for Betty (Sarah’s_Mommy) Check out the swap gallery to see all the great layouts.
If you are interested in participating click here for more information or email me your name, SBB ID and your email address at swap@scrapbook-bytes.com.

HOT BYTES
What’s HOT in computer scrapping!
By and © April Anderton

Trends come and go so quickly it’s hard to keep up. Here are just a few things that have been popping up on paper and computer generated layouts alike.

Using all the new Graphics CD’s is HOT, HOT, HOT!!
Remember the times when you had to scour the internet or all of your clipart software for that one perfect clip? And even when you found it, it was not-so-perfect. Just not quite ‘scrapbook’ material? Well, those days are gone! Now you can pick up one of a number of computer scrapbooking elements CDs and find that perfect element, background, or even layout. Marcee, Maya, and now the entire Design Team have tons of timesavers and creativity boosters on various CDs all sure to please! And this won’t be the end of the CD craze! Look for more DTM CDs in the weeks and months to come including one from Amy and Kristie and one from me!

Negative Strips
A fun easy way to fit a few more photos onto that layout is to use a negative strip. They come in various sizes and are pretty versatile. They are pretty easy to duplicate, or you can search out some of the pre-made varieties. The layouts below use Photoshop brushes.

Fab Fibers
If you haven’t tried your hand at making fibers now is a great time to start! With numerous tutorials, it’s never been easier. Fibers have been a staple in paper layouts for a long time, but re-creating a realistic fiber for a CG layout has been challenging. The layouts below feature great CG fibers! Go try your own today!

WHAT’S NOT:

NOT SCRAPPING is NOT HOT!! GET BUSY!

Remember that even elements that are HOT right now can quickly become cliché if overused, so keep your own personal style shining bright while applying these and other techniques.

Of course, the real judge of what’s hot in scrapping is what’s happening on YOUR layouts, so get to it!

Maya would like to announce the Grand Opening of the Scrapbookgraphics.com Shoppe where you can now purchase ScrapSets and elements packages by download. As a grand opening special, every ten dollars spent in the store up until December 31, 2003 will enter your name in the draw to win the Shopping Spree Contest. The Grand Prize is a copy of everything you can see on the store shelves, with all of those zip files burned to CD and shipped to your home. Also included is a copy of the Digital Illusions CD. Make sure you visit the store soon. New, fresh, digitally created 300 dpi scrapbooking graphics, will be uploaded regularly and special requests are always considered. www.scrapbookgraphics.com

Title of Layout: Different Time.... Same Soul

Name: Cindy Schrauben

SBB Screen Name: schraubencin

Program Used: Print Shop Deluxe

Font: Fine Hand

Techniques and Credits: This LO truly came easily to me because it came straight from the heart. As a Mom with two teenagers aged 13 and 16, I am struggling with how quickly they are growing up. I think that is why I am getting so obsessed with my scrapping - I am grabbing for bits of their childhood. While sifting through photos tonight, I realized that DD #2 has a similar look in several photos - that sly, cocky look out of the corner of her eye that I love so much. I picked three of those photos that represented a passage of time. My original title was "Different time.... Same face", but after writing the text, I realized that the face wasn't what was the same, it was the soul - hence the new title, "Different time... same soul". Now for the technique: I chose a photo entitled "shadows on white" for the background and applied a pixxelated effect. I then scanned in the two older photos and imported the newest one from my digital files. I applied a blue border and a white box frame to each photo. I staggered the size of each one and layered them in a stairstep fashion. I then, chose a pocket watch photo from Print Shop and cropped it closely, adding slight blur to the whole watch and a fade to the edge. I added a blue shape strip and a scanned ribbon across the width of the LO. After doing the journaling, I changed the title which was originally placed on the shape strip and moved them to the photos. I added my daughters name as the focal title on the shape strip.

Title of Layout: A Taste Of Costa Rica

Your Name: Tricia Lyons

SBB Screen Name: Tlyons

Program Used:Microsoft Photodraw

Fonts Used:CK Type (on the beads) & CK Journal (date)

Techniques and Credits:

Beads: Shannon
Wire & Hooks: I drew the shapes, colored them a light gray, added a shadow, and added embossing.
Map: Downloaded from internet & added a boarder.
Eyelets: Margie
Ribbon: Drew a rectangle and added a fossil texture that is built into the computer program
Paper: Used the dry rag & texture pre-set programs built into the computer program.

This layout was perfect for the title page for my vacation trip to Costa Rica.

Title of Layout: Pushups

Your Name: Meryl Bartho

SBB Screen Name: Meryl

Program Used: Photoshop 6

Fonts Used: Title: Stitch & Bitch (lovely font, dreadful name!!) Journaling: JanieHmk Regular

Techniques and Credits: The background was from a photo of denim. The element I made by copying the emblem on his sweat shirt, bevel & emboss, and stitching onto the background. Star jeanstuds (in each corner) were from Maya.

Photos were taken by my son-in-law, Marc. Stitching was downloaded a long time ago with no file name, I’d love to know who did it as I use it often!

Journaling reads:
Marc loves his sport - running, cycling, surfing, and is so excited for the day that Josh can join him! To speed things up, every morning starts off with exercises, today its time for pushups!

Third Byte’s a Charm
Hosted by Margie Lundy

Because sometimes it’s better to receive than to give!

Would you like to be charmed? Then send us your photos and if they’re chosen, three of our design team members will scrap them for you! See the official rules below. Have you wondered what someone else would do with your photos? Ever had the perfect photo, but no idea to go along with it? Are you curious about how many options there are for scrapping your favorite memory? How about having gifts for your three aunts in the photos? Whatever your reason, we hope you’ll enjoy Third Byte’s a Charm.

This month’s charmed scrapper is Susan Steffens! Susan’s photos are of her two-year-old grandson Michael wearing her hat. Of course a grandmother would be biased, but we agree that he’s quite a charmer. Scrapbook-Bytes Design Team Members Amanda, Margie, and Shelleyrae scrapped Susan’s photos with their own individual styles.

You Know You’ve Been Byten’ When
By and © Amy Edwards

Your old scrapbooking area of the house is actually a useable space now!

You no longer sit in the front seat of the van with your spouse when travelling so that you can scrapbook on your laptop on the way.

You don't take offense to the term "Byte Me" anymore.

The only reason you are interested in your husband's hobby is so you can scrap it.

Your print your resume on photo paper. (submitted by Kristie Wickland)

When you run to JoAnne's fabrics just to find the coolest potential backgrounds to scan in later!

You stalk the mailman waiting for your Scrapbook-Bytes team CD.

You don't get upset when a button falls off or a zipper breaks - you think, "COOL!!" and head for the scanner.

Thanks to all of you that submitted, please send future submissions to Kristie@scrapbook-bytes.com for consideration in future issues. Be sure to include "You Knew You'd Been Byten When" in the subject line.. Thanks!
