New to digital scrapbooking, too!

Hi all! I'm Kelly from Pennsylvania, 37 - married - no kids- and I'm moving from traditional scrapbooking to digital and I'm scared to death!!!!! Some friends think this is just a fad and they say I'll completely regret doing this, but I disagree. I ordered a laptop and it should be here next week and I honestly have no idea where to begin! I think the biggest question I have is how to print out the pages once I'm finished to slip them into my scrapbooks. A friend told me to use the software by Creative Memories ($59.95!!) but to print them out is $8.95 per page and they do it and send it to you - OR I can create a hard bound book, which is also very expensive.

I've peeked through the galleries here, and I'm quite overwhelmed.

Help?!?!?!?

Just going to add a few more things, with digital layout you can resize your pages so you can make one at 12x12 inches for yourself and quickly and easily resize it to a 8x8 inches for gift ideas.

You can change colors of elements and paper to suit your needs and they can be used over and over and over 10,000 times if you want and they will never wear out and you will never run out! Ever try that with a pack of alphas and you always seem to run out of one letter faster then the others? This will never happen in digi land!

If you create a Layout and later see a spelling error or decide you don't what you just did, you can just "UNDO" it!! LOL Our favorite word in digital scrapbooking! We work in layers on our layouts just like you added items to a paper layout. Once you decide which program to use their are tutorials for beginner pages here also.

In the beginning we all thought that this would be a cheaper form of scrapbooking but for many of us it has led to newer computers, bigger and better cameras, nicer printers, scanners and software. So it's probably a close tie to which is really cheaper in the end. But at least you still have great hardware after you complete your pages!

Most of the commonly used programs have a 30 day free trial version available from their sites for you to download and try out. It could even be such a thing that your new computer will come with a program called PhotoShop Elements (comes with a lot of scanners, printers, cameras and such) Or it could even have Paint Shop Pro which also can come with those same types of devices.

I would pick either one of these two programs over Creative Memories.

Welcome to this highly addictive and fun hobby! I'm also a paper scrapper and one of the things I love about digital is the freedom it offers over paper....no more scouring the LSS for just the right color of embellishments...in digiland, you can easily recolor any element to match any color you need. Also, I figure I spend about $3-$5 per layout when I do them paper. In digital, I can load up my pages with tons of wonderful embellies and the cost is $1.60 per page if I get them printed as 8x8 layouts. Tracey has pointed you in the right direction. Check out the tutorials and freebies to download. I highly recommend using Photoshop Elements or PSP over the other software out there. These programs might be harder to learn in the beginning, but you'll be amazed at what you can do with them once you have the basics down. Welcome to digiscrapping and to SBB! Glad you found us!

P.S. Don't forget all the fun things you can do when you combine your digital pages with you paper supplies--creating hybrid projects can be very enjoyable!
