new and need help quick!

Ok, I'm new to digiscrapping and to this site. I was downloading some stuff and I saved it and now it won't open like the other stuff I downloaded. The other stuff was all png and jpg files and this stuff is zip files. What do I do? I'm using Microsoft Picture It. Any help is much appreciated.

sometimes there are zip files within zip files. Try unzipping those and hope there isn't another zip in there

I unzipped them but they still aren't in the folder I sent them to.

right click, extract file. A zip file is just a compressed file because of it's size (easier to download and share that way). Good luck!

You could just "extract all" in the same folder as the zipped file then when the unzipped folder appears (you know where it went!) then copy or cut and paste it yourself to the file where you want it to go. Sometimes this helps when a zipped folder opens and contains multiple zipped files, that way you can make sure all your zipped are unzipped without going back and forth. Good Luck

Make sure you save your zipped files to a CD or DVD for safe keeping before unzipping them. All these files start multiplying and if or should I say when your computer drive crashes, you won't be at a loss of all the hard work you've done. It's a pain and you're usually anxious to play with your new "toys" but it's a good habit to get into.

since yoyu're just beginning, now is the best time to get an organization system that's easy to be ablet o credit the graphics properly when posting a layout. Most sort the stuff in a folder by designer's name, each kit in their own folder inside there (and any matching add-on kits/alphas in subfolders inside the kit folder).

To make it easy to browse what you have, you can use an album softare to "tag" each element by keyword categroy. I find this too time-consuming, personally, so I prefer to keep the store image sample of each kit in a Samples folder. That way I can browse through all the samples, then I can go grab that kit from the designer's folder. I prefer to mix and match kits, so this makes it easier to choose stuff.

To make it easy to put the stuff in the correct folder, I unzip only one kit at a time, rename anything I need to, place in the correct folder, copy the sample image, etc. Takes a minute for each kit, but less time than tagging all the graphics.

A million ways to organize, and everyone does it a little differently, but take a few moments to think about a system that'll work for you. You're bound to change it later, but you have to start somewhere. I just mass deleted graphics because I dumped everything into one folder and had no idea where it all came from!
