Question paint shop pro

I have had the program 'jasc paint shop pro 9.01' on my computer for a while now and recently when i have opened up a new canvas, a white and grey checkered image has appeared rather then the blank white canvas that is supposed to appear as the default. Can anyone please give me some help in troubleshooting this problem? Also the colour pallete does not seem to be appearing in the toolbars on the right hand side of the program screen so i am unable to choose a colour to draw with. any help would be appreciated thanks alot ..... Jin

Sounds like your new file preferences have changed. To get rid of the checkers you need to deselect the Transparent box. I'm not sure how to get your color box back - is your materials palette showing at all?

try this - right click next to the word Overview - you should get a pop up with one of the options being Palettes - Select the Materials one and it should come back.

Are you using the selection tool to draw your circle or the ellipse tool( 3rd up from the bottom lef, under the Type tool)? If you use the ellipse tool or one of the shapes, it should fill in for you. Since it sounds like you don't like the transparent background canvas...make sure you have another color other than white selected when you use your tool. The color that will be used is the one that is used for your backgrounds (it's for backgrounds and fills) Your foreground color is for foregrounds and strokes.

Also make sure that the layer that the selection is on is the highlighted layer or it will not work either. You could be trying to fill on the wrong layer.

this happens to me about once a month and I don't know why. i've figured out how to get allmy settings back individually except the color box.

i end up reseting all the defaults to standard and that fixes it. but this hapens often enough that I've given up on customization of my screen

yeah I have psp 9 also.
