New Here

Hi there,

I'm new here, I just made my first ever digital scrapbook page this morning so I was just figuring I'd come on here and show it off.

I'm finally getting the hang of using Corel Draw/Photo Paint because of this. Even if I am still doing things which I don't quite understand how I'm doing them. At the moment my copy is as buggy as anything but I've been promised a new version, woo hoo! (One of the perks of working in a computer shop).

Anyway, about me. My name is Cait, short for Caitlin, I'm twenty, I have my first driving lesson this afternoon (Ack!), I'm addicted to downloading things from the internet, I love taking pictures of things (in fact I've now got a really small camera so I can carry it around in my pocket)... well, I think that about sums it up.

I've love to hear what you think of this as it was my first attempt. I did try uploading it here, but it was a little too big I think. If you can think of any way that it could be improved then I'd love to hear those suggestions too.

Thanks,

Cait

Hi Cait. Welcome to SBB. I'm sure you'll love it here.
You've done a great job with your first layout. The only thing I'd suggest is to add some shadows for realism. Apart from that you did great.

For uploading to the gallery, there is a tutorial here That should help.

Thanks for that, I'm going to have a go at altering that.

Unfortunately I can't upload it to the gallery because the file size is too big, but I'm worried that if I compress it further I'll lose quality.

Anyway, off to look for shadow tutorials

Here, figured out how to add shadows, didn't want to overdo it so just added them to the pictures and film strip, hopefully it makes it look like the flowers are sort of stickers or something, if I put shadows on them it made it look like everything was hovering above the page, lol.

Hi!! If you look at the tutorial that Kim posted you will be able to compress the file size and not lose quality. We all resize and compress our images fro web viewing and then upload them to our galleries to share.
We also keep one copy in the native format of your program for altering later if you need to. So that the layers are intact.
Then if you are going to print out a page of your LO we also create a high resolution .jpg for that. So basically we end up with three copies of the exact same LO on our computers!

Okay, I finally paid attention to that tutorial, in my defense I was nervous about the driving lesson (which went well )

It's not up on the gallery at last, you can see it here.

Now I'm going to spend the afternoon unzipping the freebies I downloaded earlier, then tonight I'll start making another page of something.

Thanks for all your help.
