Problem with photoimpact...or my PC?

I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem. I was making a set of alphabet elements in PhotoImpact 8.5 yesterday.....had almost the whole thing done, and it froze up on me and I lost it all. This has been happening more and more to me. It is so aggravating. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem....or if it could be my PC. I am considering getting rid of PI and loading on my Adobe instead and seeing if I have any better luck with that.

Beth is it the only program that it is freezing up on? I have more computer problems that you care to know.. I freeze up when I'm on net and in other programs.. I havne't had it freeze up in PI, which is really nice.. though I've learned the hard way to save and save until you are done you project. That way if you do freeze up you have a least saved some of what you have done..

I can't for say for sure if it is the program or the PI.. I hope you figure it.. I'd hate for you to loose PI after you told Michelle and I about it

It's not your PC

Hi Beth,

Actually, I was wondering the same thing. I was also doing an alpha, my 'puter froze, and I had to get out of PI using the old C-A-D method. I also have been getting messages about my "system resources" being low. I'm not sure what that is. It won't let me go any further and I have to close out. Worst thing is that I can't save at that point either. So one of the things I have been doing is saving my file after I do the first letter and then saving again after each one or two letters are complete. Note that this has only happened to me when working on an alpha which is all on one sheet. If I do each individual letter in a separate file, I have no problems. I am wondering if the size of the document has anything to do with it. I guess I should also note that the last time this happened I had no other programs open -- only PI, yet it told me to close all other programs. I use PhotoImpact XL. I don't know if I should contact Ulead and inquire about this or just switch to a different program. I tried PSP but it is not very user friendly. I am relatively new to digital scrapbooking and I originally bought PI to fill craft templates because the procedure was so easy. I had no idea that I would want to do anything else with it until I discovered digi-scrapping. I had heard that Digital Image Pro is very user friendly and easy to use. I was considering switching over, but I think I will try to call Ulead first. A program should not freeze up when nothing else is open.

Any more input?

Sharon

Did you download the PI patch?

I had similar problems with my PI XL program until I downloaded the patch. I would be tooling along and whammo--the program would freeze--tell me it performed an illegal something or other and close. GRRRRR.... But the patch fixed it. Try the Ulead site and navigate to your version of PI and see if there's a patch. I have been frustrated with this program also. Has anyone tried Ulead Scrapbook program? Good luck on fixing your computer woes.

I have problems wiith PI freezing, but it usually has to do with trying to open too many images at once, or too large a file. I have only 256K of RAM, and my hard drive is filling up fast, so it seems to be happening more often, lately. Probably because I have PI set to use extra space on the hard drive sort of like RAM. Backing up seldom-used files and finished LOs to disk and then deleteing them from the hard drive seems to help a little.
I have the first edition of Ulead's MyScrapbook. I don't know how many extras the second edition has, but I bought PI because I was frustrated with the difficulty of importing .png files onto my LOs without having a white border around them - it can be done, but it takes forever, not being able to just drag and drop. And there isn't much you can do with MyScrapbook in the way of creating your own elements. And it has only bare-bones photo-editing capabilities.

Good luck..

Hello Beth, I couldn't begin to tell you ALL the problems I had with PI-XL in early days - even after the patch and umpteen reinstalls of everything. It wasn't until we changed from Windows Millenium to Windows XP that all sanity was restored. Are you using XP already I wonder?
