I just saw your message, and although you can't use Photoshop brushes, there is a way to create your own in PI 8.5. I assume earlier versions of PI work the same, but I'm not sure. Make a file that has whatever you want your brush to be. (For example, it might be a flower you've drawn, a line with a jagged edge, a bit of grass extracted from a photograph, a splatter pattern, whatever. All of mine are black and white so I can choose the brush color later. I'm not sure how it works if you start with a color image.) Make sure that the object is selected, then save and close the file. When you're ready to use your brush, do the following:

1. Click on the paintbrush.
2. When the brush panel opens, click on the texture tab.
3. Click on the picture of the file folder to add a texture. Navigate to the file you've created, and double click on it.
4. Set the brush options you want, like size and color, and start painting!

Next time you want to use the same brush, follow steps 1 & 2, but click on the square filled with an X to choose from your loaded brushes.

Hope that helps,
Rachel

i am going to try this out - have looked so much for the brushing possibilty - but a quiestion - what format do you save you b/w element in - jpg, ufo or ????

I have downloaded many brushes from the net - gone into adobe photshop elements - painted, then made a file in psd then opened it and used in photo impact - but that is sooo complex. I would still have to do it I guess, but now I could paint with them....

I discovered another way and hope, my English is good enough to explain it.

You download a Photoshop-Brush and safe it as an .ufo.
You safe it in the "stamps" file of your PI. Then you open a
new sheet and go to your stamps - the second line says "add stamps" or something similar.
Choose your new stamp and stamp it.
Then you have the brush on your sheet.

If you have problems understanding it due to my horrible English and are still interessted
in the method, please contact me, I'll explain it with screenshots.

Have a great sunday

BlossomNor--Any of the usual formats (ufo, png, jpg) have worked for me depending on what the brush was. I have found the object/brush design needs to be selected when you save so that the program "sees" it when you use it as a brush. For anything that needs to be stamped rather than painted with, making it a stamp is probably the best option.

Nicole--The method you explained was very interesting. I'll have to try it. I would love it if I could use the photoshop brushes that easily!
