If I knew what a brush actually was, I could probably figure out what the PI equivalent is!

I think the closest thing to a brush would be the "stamp" in PhotoImpact if you're just looking to place images onto your layout. I think that the brushes are designed more to have lots of transparency, but that effect could also be used with the transparancy tool and a stamp and/or a .png file. At least that's what I see as far as brushes in Photoshop are concerned, you can either "paint" with them, or if they are a specific graphic "stamp" them on.
PhotoImpact can't actually use Photoshop's brushes, but it would be easy to get the same effect, just a little more work. I haven't tested the stamp tool much, I'll have to play around with it a little more to see exactly what capabilities is has, I know that it can use PSP tubes though, which is a plus!

i did some searching on the net yesterday to see if I could find out anything - and I stumbled across a tutorial made for PI called making brushes in PI and I also took a peek at a place were one can pick up PS brushes and it seems that a brush is a clipart or picture or tube etc. made into black and white for thereafter to be painted to different occasions.

I also thought it might have something to do with the stamping tool - but I guess not.

BlossomNor,

Where did you find that tutorial for making brushes in PI? Could you send me the link?
I've done a little exploring around with the brush tool and see that there is a place where textures can be loaded, I'm thinking that this is where the brushes are used, and I'm now curious to see if a PS brush could somehow be converted.

Thanks BlossomNor!

I was going to go ahead and make a bunch of brushes in Photoshop, but it looks like I can do the same in PhotoImpact, it will be much easier than having to transfer back and forth between programs.

Here are a couple of tutorials to help.

Hi. My name is Ginger Bauer. Jacquel invited members of the PIRC (PhotoImpact Resource Center) bulletin board to check this PhotoImpact forum out, so here I am!

I've been using PhotoImpact for about 7 years and love using it for paper crafts as well as Web images. I'm extremely busy working lately, but scrapbooking seems to be one of the things that helps relieve my stress.

Anyway, in reply to the question about creating brushes in PI, it is correct that stamps can be thought of like brushes. I have a couple of PI tutorials that you might like to try:

Adding stamps: http://all-in-the-image.com/pi/tutorials/tut3-1.htm

Paint on Edge techniques: http://all-in-the-image.com/pi/tutorials/tut2-1.htm

I hope these help.
