So frustrating!

Everytime I open up my PI and then try to open up a file or start a new project, the whole program shuts down on me. It happened before then I reinstalled, it was better for a bit, and now it's doing it again. I just don't want to keep re installing it. I think it may be time to go for PI 11. anyone have any problems with it? I have been using Photoshop 7 while my PI is acting up, but I miss PI. (I use Pro 8.5....to old to download any patches off the website)

Wow, Beth - I've been hooked on PI forever and stayed with XL Build 1201 refusing 10 & 11 (think I have both and loaded 10 for about an hour and uninstalled it real quick). My XL acted up for a while, but it was long ago when running it in Win 98 still. Wonder what's gotten ahold of yours lately? Have you done all your maintenance like defrag, etc.? Also, had spyware interfere with it in the past.....have you installed anything else new that might conflict?

Don't know what the issue might be... but if you have photoshop... why are you still using PI? Just curious because it seems like a step backwards in so many ways.. is it just a comfort level scrapping in a familiar program?

I use PI XL - don't have too many issues with it - used to, but upgraed my RAM - do you have all latest upgrades and patches? I recently used PI 11 - hated it - guess I am just used to XL!

Is PI really a step down to Photoshop 7? That kind of suprises me, I always thought I could do so much more with PI. I guess maybe it is that I am more comfortable with it. Don't know. And my DH is more comfortable with it too....He uses it to make sale bills and newspaper ads for one of his businesses. WHen I tried to get him using Photoshop, he was lost.

I can't install any patches from Ulead site because 8.5 is too old. I have a brand new computer and it did this every so often with both my old one and my new one, but definetly more often with this new one.

The only thing I installed new would be a new printer. Do you think that woudl interfer? It's just so frustrating. I love PI, but am concerned about upgrading to 11. Will it do the same thing?

Ugh. That is frustrating. I went from PI 7 to PI 10 and I've had no problems. I had to un/reinstall once but that was for computer problems, nothing to do with PI. I, too, am PI lover. I used PhotoShop 6 years ago and was never a fan. I've been using PI for 6 years and love it! Good luck!

I don't really consider PI a step down from Photoshop 7, I've used both, and much prefer PI. Photoshop tends to make even simple tasks more tedious in my opinion, and though I do use it occasionally, I find that I can do everything I need to do in PI...and it costs so much less to keep it upgraded!

There are also tons of benefits, PI has great presets, it's easy to make your own custom shapes, textures, paths, and overlays. It creates everything on it's own layer, so eliminates quite a few of the steps involved in creating elements in Photoshop, and I find the filters and effects much more user-friendly. So for me, it's not a step down, it's just a step in a different direction than most digital scrappers choose to take.

BTW, I'm using PI 10 and haven't had any of these kinds of problems.

Everyone has their own preference and just because it isn't the same as yours doesn't mean "they are taking a step backward". How rude!
