TIFF File question

Hi ladies,

I am trying to use a template/sketch freebie from Jen Caputo in Photo Impact 10. In her PS instructions it says that the TIFF file should open in layers. When I open it in PI it is not in layers. It is just one file. Does anyone know either what I am doing wrong, can they be used in PI, or is there a workaround?

TIA

PhotoImpact probbaly does not support layered tiff files - mainly only Adobe products so and then they are often only version compatible - not retrospective.
Do check your PI help files though - it may be an option you have to turn on

Unfortunately I've never used PhotoImpact so I don't know what files it supports. There are alternate methods for using them in other programs, i have PSP instructions on my blog that might help you figure out a way to do it in Photo Impact.

I checked out the tutorial on Jen's blog, and yes, I think you can to do something similar with PI, using the wand tool and the fill. I'm not sure how rough the edges would be, you may need to adjust your wand tolerance a bit to get the best effect.

It's the same thing with DIP. We can open the file but it is flattened. The only way people with DIP can use your templates is to just use it as a guide like a regular sketch. The other alternative is to have each part of the template saved as separate png files which would have to be positioned manually.

Thanks to all you ladies – you are wonderful! It does appear that PI won’t open layered TIFF files. It can open them, they just won’t be layered. I’ve printed out Jen’s tut from her blog and I’m going to play around with PI. I love these templates so much that I’m determined to figure something out. LOL!

Thanks again!!

I wrote a tut for using flattened sketches as a template in DIP but you should easily adapt it for PI. You can check it out here.
