Making Background Transparent

I am trying to make a logo for my Yahoo Group. I cannot figure out how to make the background of an image that I have saved transparent. The image is saved in .jpeg format. Does that make a difference?
The reason I am asking is, the pic I have saved now the background around the image is white. I want my base picture to show through, not a white box with my logo.

Thanks

jpg does not preserve transparency. You need to remove the white background from the image and save as either png or gif

If you aren't able to figure it out, feel free to PM me and I can explain in more detail how to do it, or can just do it for you

Hi Andria
PI isnt a terribly popular program here but we have a handful of tutorials here http://scrapbook-bytes.com/cgi-scrip...index_23.shtml and you can also browse through this forum area to see past messages - click to view the PI forum and then from the bottom choose Display Options: From the Beginning and then Show Threads - there are 79 pages of posts you can browse through

I had the same problem when I first used PI. On the top of the toolbar toward the right is a button with something like "WEB" or (enhance for web) on it. (I'm going from memory here). Click on that and check png and the transparency box.
