Separating elements in PI

Can someone tell me how to separate elements in PI. I have version 8 and tried a while back to do it but it just wouldn't work for me... Anyway if anyone can help I would really appreciate it. I hate to see ribbons, alpha's ect. that are together due to the fact that I can't separate them.

I have 8.5 so it should be the same. Say you have a whole sheet of alphas and you want to seperate one. Go to your selection tools. You can use whatever shape works to select the individual letter. Make your selection (the marching ants will show you where the selection is) when you have it how you want you have to choose the pick tool (arrow) and pick the item again, then when you go to edit you can choose copy/paste and then drag it off the page onto your LO.

I just learned by trial and error so if there is an easier way I am sure someone out there knows and will help us out.

I used to be able to do this, but now if I click on the selection tool and try to select just oen element, it isn't the marking ants that I get around the object....it is more like a dotted blue line. and I can't just pick that one object. what am I doing wrong?

TIA

I use PI XL - when I have what I want selected with the line around, I then switch back to "pick" mode, right click to copy, and then paste onto my work.

Does that help?

nope, still doesn't work. Here is a print screen if this helps, of how when I try to select an object, i get the blue dotted line around instead of the marching ants.

See, My Dh has started using my PI to do some advertising he does in the papers. I am wondering if he screwed something up.

O.K. - now that the flower is selected - did you go back to "pick" at the very top, and then go and click on the selected flower, they should ALL now be active, then right click your mouse and select copy, and then you should be able to paste the flower into your work.
