Upgrade issues?

I just moved from PI 8.5 to PI 10 yesterday, and I've had 10 freeze on me twice already. I was wondering if it's happening to anyone else since I almost never had that problem with 8.5 (unless it was my own fault, opening too many scrapping files at once, LOL). I'm using a brand new, half empty hard drive (old one died last week--thank goodness for external HD backups!), Windows XP, and 512 MB RAM. When the program freezes, other programs on the computer keep working, but PI stays frozen for 5-10 minutes, at which point I get frustrated and force it to close. I was doing simple things with the selection tools during both freezes, and the update tool didn't find any patches for me. Anyone else having a similar problem? Thanks!

I'm still using version 8, but I've noticed at the PIRC Bulletin Board that there is a pages-long thread on issues with version 10. If you scroll down to the bottom of the main menu, it's listed as the Hottest Discussion.

I use PI XL - yes I have had this happen - usually if I just wait a while - maybe 5 minutes or so - I know it seems like hours!! LOL - it will correct itself. What I sometimes do is save everything and then close the file and re-open - strange I know but it does seem to help. Don't know what else I can suggest - just to make sure you have the mose recent patches for everything. I recently upgraded to more RAM - 768 - this helped tremendously too!!

I'm still using 8.5 but next week I am upgrading to 11 since it is on sale at the ulead site:

I'm using the trial right now, and it seems to be an improvement on 8.5. I am always wary about upgrading problems, but hopefully this will be hassle free.

re upgrade freezing problems

Hi everyone

I upgraded to v10 some months ago & love it.I'm using XP and have had no problems. However previously PI 8 crashed a lot until my son-in-law upgraded our pc memory.
There is a way of checking that you have your pc set at maximum virtual memory which helps to stop it freezing - I'll see if I can find the link
