Have you tried maximizing your virtual memory? Scrapbooking images are huge and take up a lot of memory. I was having the same problem with PI 10 and followed this tut and I haven't had any problem since. http://tutorials.gold-acres.com/pi/vm/ (if this doesn't automatically turn into a link, just copy & paste the URL into your browser.)

I hope it helps!

Acutally, it is recommend that you always let Windows manage your VM.. it will automatically increase and warn you if you are running low.

Pesto - the reason many of us will continue to use PI is because it really is a wonderful and powerful program, and so easy to use.

I also have PS Elements 3 and DIP 9 and come back to PI every time.

It is frustrating when it crashes. Mine doesn't, so I doubt that the problem is with the software alone.

I'd be interested to know what version you are running of PI. I use 10 now, but started out with 6 and had more problems with that version. So far 10 has worked wonderfully for me. I get memory errors on PS CS2, but nada on PI 10...it is just a very user-friendly piece of software...PSP being my second favorite

Good luck to you...I hope you are able to download patches to fix the problem! I know it's frustrating to lose all of your work...it used to happen to me quite a bit...I try to save what I'm working on a few times during my "creating sessions" in hopes of it not happening again! lol

Thanks for all the replies. I actualy havent' had a chance to get in and download any of the patches. I was going to de frag also, but just don't get a lot of time on the computer right now. Plus, I have dial up...it sucks...anything I download is soooo slow.

I am running PI 8.5. And I have Windows ME which I hate! I am trying to talk DH into getting a new computer and it can be both or our Christmas gift.

anyone else ever have problems with ME? I have to re do my hard drive every few months. I hate it!

I'm also running Windows ME, I hadn't thought of that possibly contributing to the problem. Though I haven't had the problems you're having...in fact I've never redone the hard drive in the 5 years I've had it, I've just ran defrag and done other misc maintenance of cleaning out temp files, running an occasional scan disk, virus check, and spyware check.

Like I mentioned before, PI 10 (the version I'm running) is not the only program this happens with, it also happens with my Photoshop 7. So it could indeed be something else going on with my computer (or yours in this case).

I downloaded the patch on the Ulead site, and it did help with one problem I was having (a crash when I chose to use the eyedropper fill to chose a color on the screen to fill with), but I still get the occasional shut down of it all, usually when I'm trying to do many things at once. I'm so used to saving often though (it's become a habit, I do this in any program I work with), that I don't lose much though, and can always pick back up where I've left off.
