Question What kind of PI tutorials would you like to see!

I'm looking for ideas for PhotoImpact tutorials for my section of the TidBytes e-zine, and I'd like to hear from SBB members to find out what you'd like to see in this area.

Is there a technique you'd like to learn? Any questions about photo manipulation, or the tool bars? Is there a particular element you'd like to learn how to create with PI...or would you like to learn more about how to use pre-made elements? Are there any tutorials you've seen written for another program that you'd like to learn to do in PI as well?

Either reply to this thread or email me privately, I'd like to find out if there's any areas in the program that the users are wanting to learn more about!

I would like to know more about how to use the different merge modes in PI. I like to play around and see what effects I get with different modes, but I'd like to know why they do what they do.
And I would also like to know more about the different features of the paint tool, like how to add custom textures, and what is the eraser for (it doesn't seem to do anything when I use the eraser toggle button on the paint toolbar) and how to add custom tool attributes to the EP.

Thanks for the suggestions, KayLynn, it really helps to know what kind of tutorials PI users are wanting.

The custom textures will definately be something I will be covering soon as I use this feature a lot (as well as custom brush textures...these are different than photoshop brushes but very useful!)

As for the eraser tool, I use this a lot to extract objects from backgrounds, if you copy paste your graphic onto a transparent canvas, you'll see how the eraser tool can be handy. I'll have a more detailed tutorial for this in the Oct Ezine.

Any other tutorial requests? Anyone?

I'd love to know how to make grunge backgrounds. Cool that some more PI tutorials are on their way. Thank you in advance!

I would like to know if Photoshop brushes can be imported and used in PI. And if so how this is done.

It is not possible to import abr. brushes in PI without opening them in Photoshop first. You have to save these as PNGs with transparent background. And then you can use them as presets for the stamping tool in PI.

As for me,I would like to have a tutorial for lace in Photoimpact.

More PI tuorials - great news!!!

So pleased that you're looking into this.
There is so much info around for photoshop & paintshop on digital scrapbook sites but not so much for PI.
This programme is so versatile. PI was originally given to me as a present to use with my digital camera. Having started digital srapbooking I now use the drawing tools to make my own objects as well as extracting objects from still life pics and make background papers.

I would be interested in any tutorials but specifically I'd love more advice re textures, how to make my own. I'd also like to know how to make stamps.
Looking forward to seeing more tutorials.
regards Jill

Thanks for asking, Jeri. I'd like to do more with ribbon. I can make a very realistic straight length of ribbon, but I haven't found a way to make it look pinched. For example, if the ribbon is going into an eyelet that's thinner than the ribbon, how do you get the gathers that some programs can achieve? How do you make it look as though a charm is weighting down a section of the ribbon? I know PI has a pinch effect, but I haven't been able to make it do what I want.
