Our featured designer for September 1st-15th is Mye De Leon!
How'd you get started in digital scrapbooking? I have an officemate who runs 3 blogs and 1 of them is a scrap blog where she showcase some of her layouts with her daughters as the subject. I happen to check on her blogs and saw these LOs and I was amazed and ask her how to do it. She then introduced me to Photoshop and a site that offers free kits. Came another friend, Donna who introduced me to traditional scrapbooking, hybrid and digital. She invited me to join a forum and it was the start of my involvement in digital community. The rest is history
How did you begin designing? Why? I got inspired by fantasy themed kits and I wanted to make one for myself, because I thought, most of fantasy themed kits are expensive (at least for me then). I tried making my own papers and then I learned from a fellow Filipina about CU items and a couple of tutorials available for aspiring designers. I searched and searched and studied and eventually got my first store in August 2009. I never stopped learning and making kits since then.
What's your favorite product you have created to date and why? My favorite kits so far are Atta Boy and Here Comes the Sun. Here Comes the Sun is the perfect summer kit for me while Atta Boy is the boy kit I have dreamed of, filled with boy toys and elements that will add variety to every layout.
Where do you look for inspiration when your mojo is MIA? I browse for colors and look for the ones that will inspire me and get me something to do. Sometimes, I check for stock photos and extract the colors. But honestly, when my mojo is fired up, I stock on kits. So that when it is MIA, I can just give it a rest and get it going again when it's back.
Do you lean towards a particular color or color scheme when creating new product? Yes, I am very much into colors. I have only created a kit without a palette. Most of my kits are inspired by colors and from there, I draw out a theme and proceed with working on the papers and the accompanying elements.
What is your favorite font when creating? Scrapbooking My favorite is Century Gothic, both when creating kits and layouts. I guess it's the simplicity of the font that I like. I even use it on my ads
What was the most fulfilling and rewarding feeling you ever get about your designs? Seeing layouts using my kits, especially layouts done by my customers. I do feel really happy when customers do respond to my Facebook posts, my blog or someone sends me an email to say they like my kit. It's priceless.
Tell us a little about yourself and family. I am 32 years old and working full time by day, and a scrapper at night. I love cake more than ice cream and despite my age, still loving spaghetti. I live a simple live but I do work hard to get the things I want. I am easy to please, friendly and I do cherish my friends so much. I am married for almost 5 years now and have been blessed with twin daughters namely, Scieszka Raine and Elysia Raine, our naughty but sweet little princesses
