Board Book Info

Ok. So i know it is really late, given that father's day is tomorrow!

But, I am going to attempt to make a Altered Board Book for my Dad for Father's Day.

We are bringing it to him next weekend.

Does anyone know of a good tutorial about it anywhere? I am going to use just a regular Board Book of the girls and alter it.

I am going to do a bunch of digital layouts of the girls to put in and I am going to let the girls draw some pictures for it as well. I am also going to do some journaling throughout about reasons why they love their Pappy.

So, these are my questions.
How do I adhere the pages so that is looks good?

What do I do to protect the pages after they are in there?

Do I use like a hodge podge stuff over the pictures, can I even do that over ink jet printed pages?

Can I just stick the pages in with regular adhesive like scrapbook adhesive?

Anyone that has any information would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I do board books when I paper scrap.....I have ones that are designed for altering...so they were white. I used regular adhesive and the covered the completed page with Modge Podge....glossy type. It will have to dry about 24 hours before you can close the book. I have covered the photos and everything (not fabric flowers though) with it and had no problems with color bleeding. Use care to make clean brush strokes since sometimes they can be seen. Start on one side of the page and go across the layout in rows just like painting a room. Best of luck.

A Xyron would also be perfect for this - you can get a cartridge that applies adhesive on one side and laminates the front - in fact i think Ill have to try it lol!

Thanks guys. I appreciate the suggestions!

I always wanted an excuse to by a Xyron! I think those things are so cool..and with two girls I can think of all kind of things I could use it for with crafts for them....

I'll have to add it to my craft wish list!

I know this was also asked on the Customer Care group and there was an article written by Laurie on how to do this as well in the September 06 EZine

Yep, you sure can use purchased board books from the children's section of the dollar store! Use gesso or an inexpensive flat white paint on the pages first to cut the gloss, does not have to be perfect or opaque, just de-glossed. Then go for it! Print your pages and adhere, embellish with all kinds of goodies, cut out pockets and windows what-have-you. I did use modge podge to protect my pages after, as I wanted the book to be handled. Just use 2 thin coats rather than one heavy coat and you should be able to avoid bubbles. Good luck! The tutorial in the '06 Sept ezine is more detailed and is step-by-step with photos..
