What about when you rasterize it?

Here's my question--
if you use a font, then rasterize it as part of a background paper, for example. Then you modify it using brushes, etc. Technically, it is no longer a font--just pixels that are part of an image.

So what do you do if you want to sell that image as a digital scrapbook background? Does anyone know???

I can't find any reference to this type of use in the research I've done.

Thanks,
Roseanne

If you change a font into a rasterized image and use it as a brush, it is still technically the font creator's work. It would be like turning one of PC Crafter's line art images into a font character - it's still the PCC artists' work. It sort of ticks me off when I am looking at "free," font sites and find licensed images in someone's "dingbat," collection, knowing full well they don't have the authorization to use the image...anything can be scanned and turned into a font, and from a font into a brush, etc...

House of Lime has some info on this, she has several free fonts (dingbats), but if you want to incorpoarte them in ANY way for your own profit, you must pay her a (very reasonable) fee for this user license.

Wow - you all are a huge wealth of information. Thank you so much for this! I am quite frustrated because even some of those fonts that came with the website / email info aren't great either, because the email has been returned to me as invalid and the weblink is giving me an error. I guess I will steer away from anything I cannot find details on permission for commercial use.

Thanks again for all of the information.

Yes house of lime is just great and reasonable. I recently paid to use one of the dings there. Very easy and clear about the terms.
Now I understand why most kits do not have a lot of fontwork in them!

Shawna,

can you tell me where on the CK site you found that form? I've looked all over, and all I can find is some info in the FAQs saying to get permission from Primedia. I emailed them about 10 days ago and haven't heard anything yet.
