How many fonts can you have in

your fonts folder and not cause OS issues? What if I have multiple folders inside my font folder, will PS 7 recognize all fonts? (hope this makes sense).

Just in case...I'm on a PC running Win2k, 1 gig DDRam, Athlon xp 2400, 80 gig hdd ('bout half full).

Thanks,

Michelle

performance

Actually, you may want to look into a font manager. Font Thing seems to be pretty popular, and it's free. It's not so much a system problem, as PS7 is going to start choking when you you have 400+ fonts. Remember, it's LOOKING at every one of them when it's starting up. You'll run into issues using them in the program, too.

I actually keep my fonts on a completely different drive. I have them in groups according to style, etc. When I want to use certain ones, I use a font manager to install them and uninstall any that I'm not using at the moment.

Works for me, and frees up more memory for OTHER things....

Thank you! Went and got Font Thing. So now are you saying to uninstall the ones I don't use so much, install when I need. So before I unistall do I need to have them all saved to a CD then install as needed (sounds like a pain) or just put in a different folder somwhere else and install as needed...hmmm I may have just figured it out...lol.

Oh yeah, are there any Fonts that I HAVE to keep on my system ie Ariel, Times Roman etc.

Still want to hear from you though...

I also would like to know the default fonts.
I am going to start over and I never saved the orignal folder *OOPS* with just the defaults in it.

default fonts

Yes, there ARE fonts that you need to keep. Yes, back up before you uninstall them. Someone posted a link to a website a while back that listed the default fonts for Windows. Hopefully, they'll see this thread and post the link again.

Onescrappysite.com used to have a list of the system fonts (hopefully still does). If you use the Font Thing, you don't have to make a copy to uninstall and install, but I did anyone. I have a CD of all my fonts. I try to keep them down to just what I know I will use, but you never know how styles will change. Something you hated may suddenly look good to you!

Cool

defintely offload all the fonts you don' t need and just keep the ones that you use on a daily/weekly basis loaded.

Using a font manager is a super idea.. BTW: if you take a look at a good media organizer (thumbsplus, extensis portfolio, picasa), they all allow you to keep all your files organized in a single program.

For example, I use the program to catalog all my photos, clip art, fonts and embellishments. I assign keywords to all the files such as good, family, fancy, title, etc.. then, when I am looking for a fancy, title font, I just do a search and the system provide me just those fonts and shows me a thumbnail of what they look like. I then install the font, use it and uninstall it again.

Same goes for photos and embellishments, papers, textures.. you name it.. Stay organized!
