Quick Question - Shadows or no Shadows?

Ok..I know that *I* prefer to have no shadows on elements so that I can play and adjust them to my liking...but I was wondering how everyone else felt about this? If you were downloading a kit that you were purchasing...and shadows were used in the example layout, would you expect the shadows to be part of the kit? And, do you prefer them to be included, or left off for you to do what you please with shadows? Thanks for your thoughts!

no shadows

I prefer to have no shadows. The depth and color of them depends on where they are and what is under them. I want to make my own to match whatever layout I'm making.

If I were purchasing kits, I wouldn't purchase a second one from a designer who included shadows.

I prefer no shadows, also. As for the preview, it does look better with shadows included, but I don't necessarily expect them there when I download. That said, I've noticed that when I create my own elements, sometimes shadowing plays a big part in it's creation. Obviously, if it's a layered tag, but I've noticed that some "metal" elements look better as you create them if you have the slightest of shadows.

I also prefer no shadows. It is very frustrating working with a graphic that has them because they can't be altered unless you are using the native format they were created in. The majority of my elements are made without them - unless they are integral part of the element. Good question!

I prefer no shadows unless the element is made up of multiple components which need different shadowing, something that obviously can't be done easily when working with a jpg or png. I often turn elements, and a pre-made shadow then has to be erased.

Thanks for responding everyone! I'm glad to know I'm in the majority here instead of the minority! *laugh* I'm picky picky picky about shadows....and I like adding them myself. It's just good to know that others feel the same way. *laugh*

This is a great topic. I am just so torn. I have had people say they like shadows because they sometimes cannot recreate the same shadows that are shown on the sample page. I use DIP and DIP does NOT have the best shadow effects like PS or PSP. I use EyeCandy's Shadowlab for this reason. On the other hand I have had others who don't want shadows at all. It is so hard for me to send out my elements naked. *lol* I finally decided to add VERY light shadows to certain elements. I am hoping this will please both parties.
