To anyone looking for Scriptina it is currently (as of 04.06.05 @ 4:21 a.m. ET) on Script > Calligraphy > page 6 at www.dafont.com. There is an alternate route to it via a link on Luc Devroye's type foundry archive site to a Spanish site that is currently holding the entirety of the original Apostrophic Lab website but I can't remember the name of it offhand. If anyone out there appreciates AL's creations many of them can be found at www.moorstation.org. Click on the link to typOasis and go to the designers section. Unfortunately Scriptina is not there but many fine and completely free fonts are. While I'm at it I also recommend Paul Lloyd and Rick W. Mueller, who can be found in the same section. Paul designs blackletter and vintage fonts while Rick is a former designer for ITC. Both are excellent. Oh and I have over 900 downloaded fonts on my computer, very few of which I've gotten from pay sites. When I do purchase I go to www.fontdiner.com or myfonts.com. I have nothing but good things to say about both sites.

Oh and if you have Windows XP (mine came with my computer when I bought it last year) it seems more than 500 fonts will not cause your computer to do anything out of the ordinary. I just keep putting more and more in...I am probably closer to 1000 than 900. As of yet no bizarre crashes. Just make sure you have enough hard drive space (we have 120 GB split between two drives) and that your video card has RAM of its own (I suggest at least 64 MB-ours has 128 MB) or else it will act like a parasite upon your computer's RAM and cause crashes from lack of virtual memory, especially if you're doing graphics-intensive work.

I love Fonts!

I have a site to add to find really fun fonts. It's got the Scriptina font which is one of my favorites. I also use Tinker Toy a lot. It's called http://www.momscorner4kids.com .

Fonts

Hi, I just joined the site a few months ago. But I have been a font freak for years. I have Windows XP, and I have over 2220 fonts. I have so many favorites, I can't remember them all. I know I love 2 peas and LD fonts and PC fonts. The only ones I ever paid for is 2 peas and Chank.
-Some of my new ones are:
-Dancing Egypt
-AKA Frivolity
-An Unfortunate Event
-Starry eyes
-Nemo
-Idolwild
-fish in the bathroom
-Enchanted prairie dog
Well, that's enough.. I too have spent more than half the night downloading fonts and installing them. I just go to google and type in free fonts, and then go nuts. LOL
Happy downloading fonts to all!
Mary

default font list (Windows)

Late to this thread (just saw it ) but it appears to be ongoing. I'm a font freak too (newly converted) and though I only have 500something fonts installed on my PC, I am nervous about it slowing things down etc. I have a few more that I still have to unzip and install. I like the idea of sticking them all on a CD and then installing/un-installing as needed or every season or whatever. I know there was a post about nesessary/default fonts back in the first few pages but the link that was provided to an article is no longer valid. Seems it pointed to a Sept 03 newsletter?? The newsletter archives only go back to November 03 as far as I can see.

So in case anyone else using Windows needs this info, here is a list of Windows default fonts.

edit: The link I just gave is for 95, 98, and ME I think. Here is XP.
