Use of Textures Overlays - Help!

I'm trying to decide if I want to purchase some of the texture overlays. For some reason or another I cannot grasp as to what it does or better yet, how it does it. Like I was looking at VF's that she has for sale. Do you create, say a 10x10, in PS make it the color you want and then add the texture? Or do you create the 10x10 as the texture then add the paint bucket? What? I ain't gettin it! lololol If you have examples to share, please do.

TIA!

I think since they are overlays, that you create your background and then put the texture on top. But, you could probably layer the overlays, changing the opacity or blending mode.

I use mine in a variety of ways.

My favorite is probably this: create your 12x12 document. Fill it with the color you want for the background. Add any patterny fancy stuff (ie stripes, paisley, etc) or keep it solid if you'd like. Drag the overlay onto the paper- the overlay will now be on its own layer. The overlay layer goes on above everything else. Then change the blend mode to OVERLAY.

I'm horrible at explaining things, I really hope that made sense.

Ooookay...It's coming to me slowly. It's like when you have a border to apply. So I'm trying to figure out how the color comes through. Is it through the Blend Mode? I've found one that I'm going to play with. Thanks for your help!!
