Using fonts

So I have downloaded fonts to a separate folder on my PC, and I unzipped it, and clicked copy and went to the "FOnt" folder under Windows to paste it, and I keep having this message saying :

The xyz font is currently being used and cannot be replaced.
Wait until Windows is finished using the file, and then try again

So what should I do ?
or is there another way to use a font without downloadind it to the windows/font folder...

Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase helpppppppppppppppppppp

Hmmm...that is odd! Is your WinZip application shutting down after you unzip the fonts? That and Windows Explorer are the only two programs I can think of that might be "using" the font while you are trying to install it.

What I would do is shut down your other programs, restart Windows Explorer, and re-open your Fonts system folder. Make sure you are not double clicking on the fonts...only single click on them to highlight them, and then drag them directly into the Fonts folder. I don't bother with the copy and paste method...just a direct drag into the Fonts folder does it for me

Good luck!!!

Ooh don't install them to the windows folder. It just makes your system run slower. What I do is have a folder on my desktop with all my downloaded fonts and when I want to use one or more I open my AMP font viewer program scroll for the font then click install temporarily. Very handy program and real easy to understand. Best of all its free. LOL

Here is a link to the AMP font viewer - http://www.ampsoft.net/utilities/FontViewer.php

Thank you everyone !!!
In fact I already shut down all my programs and even my PC !!! I restarted it...
it still gives me the same error message ...

Does anyone know if that could have anything to do with a protection system, since I am working from my office. Could the network administrator of the comany have done some restrictions or not ???!

Meanwhile, and in all cases I will try Lori's suggestion !!!

Thanks a bunch !!!

I have a separate folder called scrapbook fonts. I put all my extras in there and then use FONT THING to look at them. You'll find a ton of threads on this site about Font Thing and other font viewers and organizers. I never install all of these extra ones - probably have around 2,000 of them. When you have Font Thing Open, you can pull up and use all of the extra's in any program, not just your photo editor. You'll notice them in WORD and everywhere else. Good luck figuring out what's going on.

You don't even need to install a font to use it. I keep uninstalled fonts (ie. fonts not in the windows fonts folder) in a separate folder in My Documents then use the instructions in the following tutorial:
