CD labels and CD "rot"

WIth the discussion below about labeling, I wanted to ask if anyone if concerned about CD rot due to the glue in the paper labels.

It seems that right now there are a lot of questions, but not a lot of answers about CD rot and the best way to avoid it. I'm assuming that it's a disease of the burnable CDs/DVDs, and not a problem that commercially produced manufacturers are having.

I **love** the label that came with Jen Wilson's "Evoking Emotions." It looks very professional and like it was printed on the CD itself. I think Epson has a printer that will do this. It would be cool to have a printer like that! It might help avoid CD rot. And at the very least, I wouldn't have to buy the CD stickers anymore. That would save money, right? Works for me anyway. LOL!

Works for me also. *S*

I have one of those printers, and I just buy "printable" media, either CD's or DVD's. I love this way of doing it because you do have some legitimate concerns. I'm not sure the glue would destroy the data, but other things can happen.

If the label is not centered, the disc can become off balance in the drive, causing problems and even to the point of breaking the cd/dvd/and or the drive. Not something I want to have happen at all. Secondly, the heat generated by the drive spinning can also cause the label to get bubbles in it, which again can destroy a drive.

And, although the above examples might be rare, it was a chance I was not willing to take. Thus I got the printer that will do the discs.

Hope this helps.

Mine is the Epson R300, which was in the price range of $250 when I bought it - I think you can find it a bit cheaper now. You might also check on the R200 because I think it has the CD/DVD print tray also.

We actually originally looked at it for the photo printing qualities, and the CD/DVD printing tray was the deciding factor. It is a 6 cartridge printer, which I really like -- I only have to change the one color that might be running out.

I'm sure there are others that do this, but this is the model I am familiar with.

Hope this helps.

I printed Jen's labels as well as my own and the labels for the Year in Review CD. It actually is cheaper and less time consuming than using sticker labels I love the silver printable cd's they just look so sharp and professional. No more waste I've not lost one cd to a bad print yet. I've printed hundreds of cd's on one set of ink and layouts as well and a few normal humdrum things and the ink just goes on forever and ever. I purchased a Epson Photo Stylus R200 for this purpose because at the time I had a printer and ONLY wanted it for the CD ability. I bought it direct for epson and got freeshipping and I think a free extra black at the time. I am very impressed with the printer and would reccomend it to anyone.

LOL Tanya...

I was just going to mention your CD's!

My DH is a computer guy, and when I got your CD... I said WOW honey, how did she do this... and he said that was with a printer, and that lady is really professional about her CD's... So, just kuddos to you all who use those from a computer man's perspective!

I find it funny, he just writes on all my CD's and DVD's with a "Sharpie", I guess he didn't want me to know there was yet another pinter out there I might want to buy. {{{lol}}}
