where do you sell your digiscrap pages?

Ok, I know here but do you (can you) offer the same packages at different sites? For example - Do you make one kit and sell it here, then at 10 other digiscrap sites? If you are "good" how much can someone expect to make? I know this varies HUGELY but if anyone can give me a ball park -

For example - I make a really cute kit and offer it for $1.50 to 5 different digiscrap sites... what kind of money would be reasonable to expect?

Oh and another question - are you guys all making your elements solely from scratch? do you use photos for flower elements??? I'm such a novice...

It really depends on the store. Some stores ask exclusivity for the designers. Some allow the designer to sell elesewhere but kits are exclusive to that store...

The amount of money really depend of the designer, the talent, the store.... I know of designer who make $90 a month, some make $300 and some make more... Is different to each one.

There are hundreds of stores and each store has different requirements about exclusivity. How much you sell depends on any number of factores including the appeal of the kit, the traffic in the store, what else is available in that store or in any other store with a similar product. So you really cant generalise what your income could be. Your favourite kit could sell badly while one you thought was mediocre could be a strong seller.
There are a few who make the equivilent of a full time income as a digital designer but they are in the minority- the rest can be any range

Cost isnt always an issue - people wont necessarily buy the cheapest product - though some only shop when sales are on.
Design wise there is no one answer - it completely depends on the product. I have kits where I have made everything from scratch, kits where i have purchased and used commercial use products and kits where I have used items Ive scanned myself and all combinations.

Designing and selling isnt as easy as it looks - like any business there is a stack of behind the scenes considerations - for example selling at 5 stores - each store with their own commissions and store fees that are payable by the designer could eat into any income. Then there is the investment in advertising costs and time, etc etc

Good luck in your venture!

Very well said Shelleyrae!

Especially the behind the scenes work. If all I had to do was make items my computer would be full (heck I already do that) but if I didn't have to save all my files corectly with the compression level and in a different file formats, remembering to save the original files (just in case), do previews , name the files correctly, get it all into a folder and zip file correctly, attach the right TOU files, instructions for use, description, upload to my store, fill in all the details, make sure it is all correct 5 times over. Then remember to announce it in the forums, make up sales Ad's, coupons and blinkies and banners....figure out where you can place these ads without getting in trouble.....whew .....I would have a lot more in my store!! LOL

One of these day I am going to track my days spent on the behind scene work for one product from conception all the way to the first day I get it all uploaded and then do a average on how it sells, to figure out I only make 5 cents an hour!! LOL

Don't know anything about this business but wouldn't it also be considered self-employment income and reportable to the government for taxes? More record keeping and paper work...to add on to all that Tracey mentioned.

Thanks everyone - this is really the stuff I was trying to get at - "is it worth it?"

What I'd like to do is try to sell completed digital pages in albums to clients - at Mpix - a 12 x 12 costs roughly $6.00 - If a normal album has 10 pages (20 sides for LOs) then just to print the album would cost $120.00 - Would People be willing to pay $200.00 for a completed album like that? If I paper scraped it I can get ~$30.00 per 2 page layout so that's $300.00 for a full album.. sorry just thinking out loud... There is also the possibility of digiscrappin' on a CD for people and letting them print it at either 12 x 12 or 8 x 8 - Then there would be the possibility of making $100.00 vs. $80.00 - Is my line of thinking on track or am I way off???

I don't know about prices or anything, I just know you need to be sure the digital supplies you use are commercial/S4O friendly...many designers have TOUs that only allow their stuff to be used for personal projects. Sometimes they allow commercial uses, sometimes you have to pay a higher price and sometimes you just need to contact them for permission. The added cost might need to be taken into consideration. Good luck!!
