Need help S4H 'plans' feedback appreciated

I've made my mom and MIL a calendar as gifts for christmas, they where totally happy with it and loved them totally.
Now my SIL saw the calendar at my MIL's house. My SIL and me are NOT close at all.
So my MIL said you have to make SIL 1, with her own children.
I told her no, I love my nieces but SIL and her DH have always treated me like crap, so I refuse to GIVE her anything.

So that was it.
Then my MIL showed it to a friend of her, that friend called me a few days ago, she wanted something like that with her grandchildren.

She will deliver the photos and I will make the calendar, and while I was add it she wanted some big layouts to have printed on canvas. She said I didnt have to do is at a gift, she was willing to pay me as well. i'm not sure IF i'm gonna do this, I get a bit tired of the 'OH Carin will do it' mentality.

So here I am, DH said go for the money, buy licenses and do it, but I'm still doubting for various reasons:

1. What would i charge for a single layout for starters.
2. I need to get through all TOU to see what would fit, what licenses would be bought and so on
3. Will I still have time to scrap for myself

So girls that do S4H/S4O what do you charge for a page, and do you deliver the end product prnted and all, or do you deliver by email, help me out a little please.

And I'm still only THINKING about this, whenever I get 'real' plans I will let you know.

I just saw this... and this is my opinion do with it what you may. If you really dont want to do it then dont. You have no obligation to do it... and trying to craft without the heart is totally point less. I would just explain to her that the items you used to make the calendar are only available for personal use and you would have to purchase new items to do her kit. If you think about all the you use on a project like this if you had to buy it all right now I am sure the price could get over $100.00 pretty quick..

If you do chose to take it on make sure you have a big time line... dont want to rush and stress... and dont forget to take into account that you may have to buy some more license or kits. But like i said if your heart is not in it...... but that is just me do with it what you may.... Oh and as for the price I cant remember where i read it but the other day I was reading about the pricing and I think the ladies had decided that it was about $25.00 per page. so there you go a whole lot of nothing from me .

I would never do scrapping for anyone unless I wanted to and had my heart in it. It would be hard to force myself to make something I didn`t want to. I can see that it would end up being quite expensive after reading the last post. So you have to decide is it really worth it. Just my opinion Carin.

I agree with Jess and Ang. Personally, my creativity is severely lacking when it comes to scrapping for someone else. Especially if I have no connection with them. If you decide to do this, make sure you include your time in the pricing. If you know it will take you 15 hrs to create something like this, make sure you include it. That alone may make your pricing a little too high for most ppl. Sit down and calculate the TOTAL cost of each project and go with that.

I have wondered about this too - but not done anything for anyone. I think $8-12 for a page would be the minimum! You want to be sure your hourly rate doesn't drop below minimum wage - it's so much better for you to be making memories with your family than being underpaid and taken advantage of, especially when you're doing something as important as helping someone else preserve their photos and memories!

When I was running my scrapbook store, I did create layouts and albums for others. For a basic archival album I charged $10-$15 per page. This type of layout had the photo and typed text set up like a newspaper or magazine (plain white cardstock with no decorative extras). For layouts that were decorated with more real scrapbooking products, the fee was $25 per page (metals and lumpy embellishments had to be supplied by customer if they wanted those too).

For digital... I would suggest calculating the cost of the kits needed, and the hourly cost to make them. Take this number and multiply it by 2. Provide the customer with a CD with the finished product so they can print off as many copies as they like.

My kits in the store are for personal use, but if one of your clients bought the kits then you would be allowed to create the layouts for them. Just include the kits on the final CD, and then delete them off your HD when you are done. (Keeps your costs down that way when you are not sure if you want to get into this type of work). Also, keep a back-up copy of their CD just in case something happens to their copy.

For the right person, this can be a very worthwhile adventure... as long as they charge an amount that is worthy of their work. If you don't charge enough, you will burn-out faster and find that creating layouts is a chore rather than a pleasure.

Thank you so much for all your input I really value your ideas on this subject. I'm still doubting and wondering and trying to find all items that can be used and figuring out prices from licenses and so on.

A part of me wants to do it, another part isnt sure, cause there's still so many of my own memories that need to be done. And what if I buy all these licenses and there are no costumers.....

Colleen you'r saying if they buy their own kit, I can use it to scrap with? Isn't that a bit of 'cheating' when you do S4H? For some reason it doesnt sound right to me. No idea why maybe i'll get to that later on when i'm still working out details.

I've did a little 'survey' among friends and family.
Well as I suspected my SIL isnt gonna pay 1 penny, but hey that's her loss not mine
Other people and family talk about a range from euro 7,50 to euro 15 being about 12 to 22 dollars.

Anyways I will keep thinking about this and let you know of my process
