business license?

If I am selling my designs on someone else's site, do I need a business license? Is there anything else I should know about it as well. I know I have to keep track of stuff for taxes. Thanks for your help.

I would check your state laws for that. Different rules for different states. Also, you may be content with Paypal for tracking sales/payouts, but I also use an Excel spreadsheet.

yep, it depends where you are. I did get a business license and it was just a matter of going to courthouse and filling out paperwork.
Keep track of everything and better yet check with an accountant even BEFORE you get started (speaking from experience, if I had to do it over again I would have done this).
OH and don't forget Uncle Sam!! In the U.S. you have to pay taxes on your income

Thank you for the advice. I knew I had to pay taxes. Didn't think of going to an accountant. What kind of questions should I ask the accountant? Luckily I have family who are accountants.

one thing to ask for is a listing of what may or may not be deductible expenses. I did not get a business license for my own design business because in MN, you don't need to file if you are a sole proprietor and you have your first and last name in your business, which I do: Christine Smith Digital Design. When it came time to open my own shop, then we did file with the state as an LLC.
