Question designed 1st kit - next step???

Hi....

I just finished designing my 1st kit last night ("Polly Prepster"). It has 4 colors, 8 papers, 8 embellishments, & 3 ribbons.

I'd really love to get my foot in the door somewhere so I can become a commissioned designer. How do I do this?

Also, I know I have to zip all the files togther, but I have no idea how to do this either. I know how to unzip, just not zip.

Thanks for any assistance you can offer. I really appreciate it!

Sara, my best advice to you would be to take a little time. Learn your program, design a couple more kits. Offer them as freebies somewhere (either at your own blog or some place else). Try to make a name for yourself before you start selling.

There are hundreds of designers out there now, and its really hard to become "known" and do well in this business. Its easier to make a name for yourself by giving your kits away as freebies for a bit and then trying to sell. If they liked you when you make freebies, there's a good chance that they'll like you when you start selling.

When you've reached the point that you really are ready to start selling, then start contacting stores. Watch for designers calls.

As for zipping your file, right click on your folder and go down to "add to archive." It will bring up a menu for you choose what file to save in and then what to name it.

Best of luck!

Mirranda.........

Thanks so much for the advice.

I don't have a blog & no idea how to start one. Advice there? If I have one, how do I introduce people to it?

Is Scrapbook-Bytes Free Downloads a good place to start offering freebies? To me, it seems ideal compared to many other sites I've seen. It seems like the new member submissions have some beginners on there.

Thanks again,
Sara E

Sara- you could certainly send them in here. Also- if you want to start a blog you could go to Blogspot and create a simple one. Upload your zip files to You Send It and then post a link on your blog to download.
