I saw a similar thread on a photography forum. Seems like this is a big problem with little league in general. Don't have an answer for you but just wanted to let you know you're not alone. The only thing I would suggest is get in touch with the "powers that be" in the league organization and explain your situation. Possibly have the other parents contact them as well. Maybe this will encourage them to come up with a solution acceptable to all. Or at least make the rules clear and available to everyone.

OK..so I just got summoned to a Little League board meeting on Sunday. I tried to explain to one of the board members what I was doing and her response was that it was taking money away from Little League. I was told the only way I charge for the layouts would be to have Little League approve it as a fundraiser, with the organization receiving the profit. I did however research the Little League Headquarters by-laws. What I am doing in no way breaks or even stretches any of their rules. I am meeting with an attorney tomorrow to get the specific laws regarding this so I am ready for the ambush Sunday. Pray for me

oh my goodness- I *will* pray for you.

This is soooo odd! Why in the world would you not be allowed to do this? even for a profit? what's the difference if they went to a local photography business to do the same thing?

As long as you have the parents' consent to photograph their children, I would think you should be ok. If they have asked you to do the layouts, I really do not see what the problem is. I could see if there was a rule stating that no photographs could be taken near the ballfield, but if there isn't- then this is nuts!!!

Please let us know what the attorney says.

This is really baffling! I've taken team photos in uniform for end-of-season cards and coaches gifts but nothing for a fee but I know I've read elsewhere of others doing so. Will be interested to hear of the outcome of your meeting.

Good Luck.

I talked to my boyfriend who when his daughter was younger was a coach for her little league games. People were allowed to talk pictures at the games there. He also agrees this is stupid. How could they sue you for taking pictures of your kid?? I also would love to know how this comes out. Good luck on sunday

Here's what I would do: Seeing as you aren't making any profit from this I would just make the layout, burn it to disc and give it to the parent who wants a copy. They can then go out and get it printed. It's no different to sending grandma a layout of their grandchildren so they can get a hard copy printed for themselves or having 2 sets of photos printed so you can give one to a friend or relative.

Oh My!! This sounds very foolish!! Even if you were making money I don't see where that is any of their business. Let us know how it all turns out. Best of luck to you!!

I agree with everyone else here. I don’t think they have any legal hold in not allowing you to do it. I am convinced they know that, too. This is why they’ll try to intimidate you. It’s so sad. This is not about the kids. This is about money! This just really urges me.

One thing I’d do in preparation to your talking to the board is to get some parents for back-up. The board will be far less intimidating if you have a number of parents behind you that agree with you. You are also right by getting a lawyer’s advice. It’s always good to have the facts.

Good luck and please let us know what happens at the board meeting.
