Selling Kits

I know there are many of us having the same question. I've talked to many of you via pm. Anyway, how does a designer ever "break in" with a company to actually sell their kits? It seems it's a pretty tight lipped subject. Everyone had to get in somehow so I wanted to know the best steps to take. Is it luck, knowing the right person, etc, etc.

Thanks for any and all input,

Brenda

Hi there,
What I did was set up a blog and posted my kits on there and just started emailing stores, no doubt you have to start out small, and work your way up.

Most stores put a call out when they are looking for designers so keeping up with who is looking for what will help - I believe there are two sites right now looking for designers.. You could also apply for CT positions at a store to get in that way or offer freebies at a store site regulary and may get asked. You could even just email a few stores direct and ask if they would consider selling your deisgns when a space becomes avaialable. Its not exactly who you know but building a profile at a site - ie being active etc may improve your chances as well. HTH

i havent been able to create much, due to my husband being deployed and taking care of an active toddler. but i have a dozen or so kits that i have begun working on. they are all incomplete - due to lack of time.

this is what i plan on doing...

but when i do pick it back up...i will probably have a blog and offer some FREEBIES and also send in freebies here - that way, my name gets out there.

once my name and work is out there - then i think i can start to charge - if im in demand.

i honestly dont expect to make alot of profit...i do this more for the joy of it and hey, the recognition wouldnt be so bad

I also set up a blog, started giving out freebies, then I was contacted by a site owner who saw my designs/blog.
