Font question..

Have questions about fonts been beaten to death yet *lol*?

I know you aren't allowed to make alphas for commericial use out of most of the free fonts out there. How about using free fonts them for word art or as part of a paper in a kit you plan to sell? Does it fall under fair use?

I would appreciate any insight on this ! Thanks so much!

Hi Tabatha.
Unfortunately there is not a blanket answer for this. Font designers have the right to say what can and cannot be done with with their fonts. So it's not easy to find the answer usually, but if the font came with a readme file- you can look there or you can try emailing the font designer- if you can find their email- LOL!

Sometimes you'll find that after you've spent 5 hours trying to find an answer, you could've just as well bought a commercial font. *sigh*

You'll have to check the license for each individual font. Usually free fonts are either accompanied by a license or the site you downloaded them from would have a master license you could look at. If you're downloading a free font with no license, it's most likely not free or legal.

When a font is "free" it generally just means that you don't have to pay for the license, it rarely means that you're free to do whatever you want to with it.
