how much to charge

I have a co-worker who wants me to do some scrapbooking for her. I will use elements I create myself, of course so I won't be violating any TOUs. I just am not sure how much to charge her per page. I said that I would find out what the average price is and let her know. Any help would be appreciated.

Shawnery,

I think anywhere from $20 to $35 a page sounds about right, depending on how complicated the layout, etc. Maybe someone who does this commercially could share with us what they charge.

I used to run a business where I charged for materials plus time. I guess if you're scrapping digitally you don't have much in the way of materials costs. Figure out your hourly rate. Don't rip yourself off, but keep it reasonable. Hope that helps.

Gotta bring this up again....

One of my husband's co-workers asked me to do some 8 x 10 layouts for her. I charged her ink and paper ($2.05), and just a little bit for labor and time ($.95 - rounding it up to $3 total). Anyway, this one "favor" has resulted in a mini business with many little jobs for people. I want my services to be affordable and reasonable, but as it is now, I feel I am cheating myself. Putting together these layouts takes a considerable amount of time, and I feel I need to charge enough to make my time and efforts worth it.

The problem is: I have no idea how much to charge. Someone mentioned $25-$30. That seems terribly steep. How much above paper and ink should I charge? Is there anyone out there who does custom layouts? How much do you charge? I work in sizes 8.5x11, 8x10, 5x7, and 4x6.

I guess I'm looking for a straight forward answer, like, "I charge $_____ for an 8x10. That's $_____ for ink and paper, and $_____ for time/labor/profit."

So did you charge only like $5 for a page? I would think your time should be worth more than that. I have been wondering about this as well.

I guess part of it would depend on how long it takes you to make a layout. I think $20 to $35 an hour for your labor is pretty reasonable. If you charge on the higher end of the scale, it might be nice to throw in one 12 by 12 or 8 by 10 print at no extra charge. For extra prints, above and beyond the first one, I'd probably charge whatever it would cost you to have the print professionally done, probably around $4 or $5.

Basically, $25 or $30 for a custom layout is pretty reasonable, I think, considering the amount of work that goes into it. If they ordered, say, 10 layouts, I'd probably give a discount on the labor.

Your customers have gotten the bargain of the century up until now. I agree that you're shortchanging yourself.

I hope this has helped.
