In the business world when ever a commision or royalty is paid you generally recieve a list of purchasers and what they bought, the amount they spent and your cut along with your check. My company has written into our contracts that we can audit (at our own costs) the sales records at any time and if there is a discrepency of more than 5%, there is a penelty to pay. That being said, most of the scrapbook sites probably don't have the staff or money to provide this type of report, unless the shopping cart could somehow automate this report. There is no doubt there are people out there that will take advantage, but there is also the issue of mistakes. I'm not sure what the answer is, but I can understand your concern. I agree too that if you have any doubts about the people you are working with-don't do business with them. You must at least trust the site to begin with.

I was not told who, what, when, why, etc. I understand that is probably jsut a shortcoming of the software all of the stores use, but I was disappointed. I understand that we all hope and pray that the store owners are honest and report every penny, but what is the guarantee of that?

Here at SBB we do not provide the designers with that information (ie: name, who, email etc.) as that is violation of the customer's privacy when they registered in the store and/or site - not sharing their personal information.

Thanks Amy, That is a very good point that should be made. However, at minimum it would be nice to give the customer a chance to make this information available to the designer. Especially, because many customers may shop by the designer and may want to hear more from them. Of course there are other ways to deal with this (i.e. mailing groups) that is often utilized with much success.

It would still be nice to give designers a feel for what is selling and when. However, I understand that this is in large part a limitation of the software used to sell and may be difficult for stores to do.

It's nice to hear others' thoughts on this. Again, I want to say that I had no particular store in mind when I brought this up. It was just a general question. I think most sites are very reputable and do everything to keep their designers happy as well as their customers.

Thanks,
LaWanna

Amy, thanks for that information. I certainly didn't think of it as a violation of privacy.
