Anyone want to post some challenges for us newbies?

I need to shoot something other than sports. Challenges are a good way to shoot more! Pesto, anyone? I post sporadically due to the overwhelmingness of life with 7 kids, but I would try to do the challenges. Just a thought!

hey there!!!!

I'm so glad you wrote. There's a lot going on. And here is one that is great for newbies and the experienced. If you have questions on how to do something, write it in the thread and I'm sure someone will have your answer....

Did you try the bragbook exchange:

p.s. the kit is free and so will be the shared quick pages.

psps. I'm one of 7 siblings. I know that was tough on my mom. Good for you for finding a creative outlook. Look forward to seeing your layouts!

I'm taking part in a challenge at Flickr (I'm hoping it's okay to mention the site by name - it's not a scrapbooking site, just photo sharing) to take a self portrait every day for a year (today was day 19 - it's going to be a looooong year). This has totally taken me out of my comfort zone already, and I can just imagine where I'll end up in the year to come.

So, if I were to propose a challenge, it would be to do a self portrait a day for a week. It'll stretch you, and it will be a great way to make sure you actually have some photos of yourself among those of the rest of the family.

Eeeewwwww! Take photos of myself. I would rather eat dogfood! lol It is a thought, though. My oldest daughter complained recently that I never get in the pictures (because I'm behind the camera). Thinking on it, though.

There are free photography lessons here If the pictures don't show up, click here. (I read somewhere that the lessons are there as a tutorial without the live support mentioned in lesson 1.) Each lesson ends with an assignment. Lesson 1 is about composition and impact.

Assignment 1: Take at least one abstract photo based entirely on some of the compositional rules we talked about. Subjects should not be recognizable. Post your photo online and send me a link, along with an explanation of why you think the composition makes a visually interesting image.

Assignment 2: Students will take pictures of a subject from various viewpoints (near, far, from above, below, behind). Creativity is encouraged. Likewise, post your best two or three photos of the subject online and send me a link, along with an explanation of which you think is most visually appealing and why.

I've only read two lessons, but they seem really good so far. It would be fun to do them together, post in the gallery and comment here.

Alright, off to get up ds for basketball practice!
