Lightscoop?

Ok, I finally did get a Nikon D40x.
And I found this while surfing and thought I'd ask if any one has experience with this. and if it would really be a useful thing to have. It's supposed to help you bounce off the light from your pop-up flash so you get more natural-looking light. I remember Pesto(I think) suggesting doing this with an external flash. I don't have one so I thought this might be a good alternative as opposed to a diffuser?

Thanks!

Hi.. congrats on the new camera.. I'm sure you will love it!

The lightscoop (and things like it) aren't bad ideas.. but you'll need to be sure you use them when the situation dictates.. They are mainly for indoor use to bounce the flash off the ceiling to give your images a more diffuse light and basically allow for added fill flash. However, given the relatively small power output of the in camera flash, the results will vary depending on things like how close to the walls you are, how low/high the ceiling is, etc .

To be honest, you'd be better off saving up for a good external flash - the sb600 can be found for around $140 used.. the sb800 is the best and goes for around $225 used..

but for around $40.. this isn't a bad thing to try. Good luck!
