Canon Powershot S3 IS, Anyone have one?

I got one today. If I were more patient and willing to wait I would have written down all the different models and came home and checked them all out online before buying, but my Fuji FinePix kapootied on me this week and I'm absolutely dying without a camera. I have a couple friends with other Powershot models and they are happy. Anyone have this model that can give me opinions. I'm afraid to take it out of the box! Hoping I made a good choice.

The zoom is amazing 12x digital and it has a image stablilizer which seems cool!

Thanks for sharing any info with me.

Yes! Amy, I have the Canon S2 IS and love the fact that it has most of the power of the DSLR's w/out the bulk and weight of the lenses and the pricetag! I started with the S1 IS and have graduated to the 2. ( I see where they have the 5 now, and will prob get that one)! One thing that is a neat feature is the swival LCD view screen...I have used that a lot. And the Macro is amazing! And the IS really works!

To see some shots I have taken with this Canon go to my gallery and check out these LO's: Grand Old Flag, Home Tweet Home, Empty Nest, Earth Day, My Eye, Sixx, The Rose, Miss You Magic, Bloom, Dream, In My Garden, In the Garden, He is Risen.

I know you will not be disappointed with your choice of this camera!

BTW...that is 12x OPTICAL zoom, not digital...much better!!

Hugs,
Toni

Thanks Toni for you input. (oh, yep, Optical Zoom, that's what I meant to type, ooops). I couldn't wait, I got it out of the box and loaded it with batteries and a 1 Gig card last night and started shooting. I am so impressed! The zoom is so quick and I am getting better indoor shots than I've ever gotten before (our house is quite dark inside). I haven't tried the macro yet. The LCD is nice too. I am most impressed so far with the fact that it automatically fixes my orientation. I'm famous for turing my camera on it's side and now I don't have to worry about viewing it the that way too! Very cool! I can't wait to play more.

Your layouts and photos are amazing!!!

I also have the S2 IS and LOVE it. I get great pics with it. I have had it for about 2 years now and the only thing I don't like about this line is the fact that it takes AA batteries. I have about 3 sets of rechargeables that I keep ready at all times (I would recommend this as well). As soon as the batteries show any sign of needing to be recharged, shutter lag starts to develop. It goes through power pretty quick so make sure to have extra batteries ready. Other than that, you should love this camera.

TY, Amy for the compliment...I wanted you to see what the camera could do.
Ditto on the batteries, Aimee..I also keep 3 sets of rechargables. (one in
camera, one in bag and one charging)
So, sounds like you are up and running and having fun already!
Show us the LO's!!!
Hugs,
Toni

Thanks to both of you. Yes, I have about 5 sets of rechargables. Problem is the kids and hubby keep taking off with them and putting them into silly things like the phone or the remote control superman! LOL I bought a new set (and a new charger) along with the camera. I'm so impressed with the photos! We've got them set on Large and Fine Quality (not the superfine) and they look great. They are twice as big as my previous shots, but I'm willing to give up the space for the good photos.

I have the Canon S3 IS and love it except the bulk of it. Other than that I get pretty good pictures but I don't know how to use the macro yet. I take bundles of pictures and I only have to recharge my batteries about once every other month. Then I do that at night so I don't lose any photo shooting time. I got my camera at the beginning of March and I have already taken over 2000 pictures. I love to take pictures of the everyday stuff. Glad you like your new camera.
