Cleaning my lens

I was just wondering...
The lens on my camera got a little smudgy and I was wondering if there's a home remedy to clean it.
Can I just use a q-tip with some alcohol on it?

I don't know if that would be safe, but I wouldn't try it. Get some lens cleaner and tissues from a camera store. That's the safest. Once you scratch your lens it's all over. And that's the most important part of the camera.

NO! No q-tips. I use those lens wipes that come with glasses lenses. I think they are micro fiber. Also don't do like my mom and wipe it with the hem of your shirt.

Thanks for your response. I was afraid I'd have to buy something to clean it. I'm a little short on cash, so I was hoping to find a way of cleaning my lens without having to go to the store.

I cleaned my lens with my shirt, while out photographing for a quick fix. That quick fix ended up ruining my camera (because the smudge ended up scratching my lens) so I had to buy a new one. Either leave the smudge until you can clean it, or scrounge some money and get a lens cleaning kit from a camera store. You don't want to lose hundreds of dollars because you cleaned your lens wrong.

Just use a microfibre cloth for cleaning your glasses.. costs around $5 at a lenscrafters or sunglass hut and works wonderfully. Try to avoid using your shift or a napkin, etc.. it will scratch the glass and the surrounding plastic/metal.
