Which way is better

I have a point and shot camera and was wondering which way I will get the best pictures. When I want a tight picture of something but can't get close enough, like just the face of a baseball pitcher from behind the catcher, should I use the zoom then crop the picture or take the picture at full view then crop? My camera is set at the highest resulation the camera has.

I'd say use the zoom then crop.

Definitely zoom then crop, remember not to use the digital zoom too. The higher mega-pixels the more you'll be able to crop too.

Ditto the above...and be sure to hold the camera steady for the zoom...better yet, use a tripod.

keep in mind the limitations of the camera.. a 4mp camera will only crop so far before getting pixelated.. a 10mp camera will allow you that much more freedom - it really is the only reason to get a higher MP camera... most lower MP camera have tighter sensors and overall give you better results (YMMV of course).. But, above is correct - never use digital zoom (useless) and zoom in to frame and then crop further.
