I've used Image Rescue to recover images from a bad card but didn't have that exact message...but none of the methods I tried to access the card prior to using the software worked. That software was a freebie with the purchase of a new CF card at the time and it worked like a charm.

Thansk - the software wont work because i cant get my computer or anything else to even recognise the card is there, it seems it is a physical fault with the card itself- I have an email in to a couple of places about how much it might cost for a manual recovery - and if its even possible

SR, surprising enough my card is not recognized on my PC if I use the slot for some reason, neither it works if I use a USB card reader, but through trying everything I have found out that mine works though if I use a USB cable and connect the camera directly to the computer. I hope it helps... I don't know if this is the same problem though, because my card is a 4 GB Sandisk... I hope you can get hold of the precious pictures!!!

oh no this is terrible, I know there are some great recovery programes, I have a few, but if the cardreader doesnt recognize the card there's not much you can do.

Are the pics still on it on your camera?

I hope they are, there are a lot of pc stores and camera stores that can help you recover the pictures.

Or like Olga said try connecting the Camera itself and read from the cam to the pc....

I had that happen to me once and I lost everything on the card. Later I found in my camera manual a procedure to "recover" what was on the card.

On my E-20N the manual recommended that the camera be turned off, card removed, card and card slot dusted, card replaced, camera turned on.

I wish you luck. Fortunately, though my shots couldn't be replaced I could get similar shots at the next annual event. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

P.S. A while back at work we tried 1G cards in our older Nikons. We got no recognition and sometimes errors but once the card was in the camera we could see the images. One of the guys just downloaded from the camera to computer via USB and then went back to 256 cards.

Oh no.. that's not good! I've also used photorescue sucessfully but the PC could see the card of course.. sounds like you did get unlucky and get a bad copy - hopefully sandisk has some advice for you - of all the memory card companies, they are usually quite good with QC and reported issues are few. Good luck and let us know what they say...

I know it sounds crazy.. but have you tried a different PC with a different card reader? How about trying to plug it directly into a printer with a memory slot?

I would try what someone mentioned above...try hooking up your camera to your computer via whatever cable is required. If you can view the photos on your camera's screen then your comp should be able to view them as well via the cable. If not, then you will (unfortunately) have to have an overpriced techie-guru do a manual recovery.

Good luck.

Ive tried everything - camera won't show them either - I got a a quote to get them for $125US ( and one that was $1250AUD ekk) - can anyone recommend a company if they have had a manual retrieval done? I live in Australia so it needs to be either local - or deal with international clients
