Nikon D80

I want to go ahead and order but is there something I have to have with it? what type of batteries does it use...I see that there is a charger you can buy? do I need this?

All what you need comes in the box unless you order from a real cheap place. They take the extras out. Amazon.com or BandH are very good places to order from. Remenber...you will need a lens. I suggest you get one that will be used most, if not all the time. You want to avoid changing lenses too often.

oooohh Brenda! I don't know which you should buy -- I'm a Canon girl -- but you are gonna have so much fun with this!

BTW, I guess if it were me, I'd go with the shorter zoom, but I'll bet William has better advice for you!

the more I read...on Ken Rockwell, he likes the smaller lens better...and then for later a zoom lens...
ok, William, you must come back so I can order !
and what zoom lens should I be saving for?

oh man, now I'm reading on d preview and the comparison photos of the canon 400d are clearer than the nikon...and it costs less...
I don't know what to do?

Brenda, I'm envious! I want a new camera, too!

If you can't decide, I would rent both cameras for the weekend and test them both. In regards, I like zooms to avoid having to change lens too often.
