Great tut, Pesto! Though i knew most of what was explained, i love the clear manner you presented it in, and this will certainly help others.

And, now realize i've been doing an oopsie, deleting my memory card after uploading to my puter "before" backing up to cd or dvd. thanks for pointing this out, i'm going to be sure to back up first now!

Great tuts! I know a lot of this but unfortunately am quite disorganized. I must make a point of giving myself a swift kick in the bum and put some of this wondereful advise into practice. Oh! I think I have a New Year's resolution. Thanks Pesto!

I'm glad you are liking the tuts so far... yes - most of what I've said so far is basic stuff but it does set the ground rules for what comes next... Episode 3! I'll be posting it this afternoon... just converting it to PDF right now!

KB - yes.. I know it's temping to just delete them straight away.. but backing up first will save you a bunch of grief down the road.. I actually did delete the memory card once and then realized the files didn't transfer.. one of those cases where I left the computer thinking I had done it but really didn't... anyway.. was able to recover them all using a recovery program.. but should have waited.. I now always follow these steps!

Rae: That's a great resolution... even if you don't follow it 100% - any sort of management will greatly create the organziation that will enalbe you to find all your photos with ease.

Pesto - I'd love to post these in our tutorials section which is more permanent and accessible than the forum - I can either grab the files from here or you can send them to me at tutorials.team@sbbemail.com

I agree Kelly, Just tonight I ran into that issue. Camera is still full of family photo's...ok they are on my computer and I know that they are really there in a folder.
So Christmas at parents...tonight...I realize that I haven't actually backed up these photo's to a CD. I had the hardest time hitting the delete all button on my camera!
So I am off to back up those photo's to DVD right now!!
Great job again Pesto!! Can't wait to read part 3!!

Yup... that's why as soon as I transfer them to the PC, I move on to step 2 and immediately burn them to DVD.. I typically use Ritek DVD which I have found to work perfectly with my system. Newegg sells them for $20 / 100... so cheap but so good that I just naturally do it now. Also, I have my system set to auto-backup new files to my EHD every Wed night at midnight... so just in case.. I know at least they are backed up on my EHD as well.
