Help me fix this photo!

I want to fix this photo for my grandparents for Christmas (it's of my dad and his sisters!).

This is what I have so far...

What else can I do? I currently use PSE3. I would really like to know how to remove the pinkish tint from the middle of the photo! I would appreciate any help or ideas anyone has!!

You've done a fabulous job so far!! I don't know how to tell you to fix it any further in PSE, but if you'd like to email it to me I can try to fix it further for you.

You should be able to play around with the "levels" to be able to remove it (been a year since I worked with PSE3, but I am pretty sure it has the levels option that looks like a histogram). You could always adjust the color thru "variations" and either decrease the red or increase another color to compensate?

From this point, always work with a copy of the image as what you have so far is sure to please your grandparents already.

PS... Sonya's offer sounds pretty good too (Sonya is way too cool)

You should be able to duplicate the layers a bit and play around with the blending modes.. go into LAB mode and adjust the luminance.

Awesome job! Maybe play around with the dodge & burn brush to lighten it where it's pink. Then use a very transparent grey on the white & flesh color brush to touch up skin?

you could try reducing the saturation of pink using a mask so you only lower it on the areas you want to lower on. I'd for sure take Sonya up on her offer too.

You can use curves and choose a selective RGB layer and reduce it slightly in the highlights. I would also recommend choosing an alpha channel and trying to use it to further reduce the tint.

You could take a look at the restoration and retouching book.. it's not perfect (poorly written and hard to follow) but it does offer some great insights on how to restore older photos.

I would also highly recommend you ask someone on the retouching forum at dpreview.com.. they will take this photo and give you tips on how to bring it back to life.. they've helped me a number of times with their unique methods.. note - they all use Photoshop though so things may not translate correctly.
