Red face Canon DSLR question

Hey Ladies!

I have the Canon Rebel DSLR camera. I've had it over a year now, but I have a REALLY STUPID QUESTION! If you have this camera, how the heck do you turn the flash off?? Is there something special that I need to do? I tried following the instructions in the book, but it always still pops on..... HELP! LOL

HMM well in manual modes I believe you can't turn off the flash except the very first one ( a rectanglular box with a slash over the flash)
in manual modes you have the option to not have the flash go off.
An AWESOME book I have for the rebel is ; The Rebel XT Field Guide
I use this book all the time, way easier than that manual

I was embarrassed in camera class when I couldn't turn off the flash so I started reading the manual again. I don't know much but here's what I think I know.
In Full Auto and the Basic Zones Modes (except Landscape&Sports) the camera flashes automatically, we have no choice except for the Flash Off Mode; the last icon on the dial (see manual pg. 47).
In the Creative Zone modes it never flashes unless we force it to by pressing the Flash Button on the front of the camera.
I'd love more (and/or corrected) information too.

That is typically correct.. On full Auto modes (not good to use really), you cannot turn off the flash. The creative modes are also quite restrictive and usually should be avoided (you can get the same settings buy setting them manually from the menus). Best to use A or S modes (P if you must) and stay off Auto... you did buy a DSLR afterall.. Good Luck.
