So what comes first? the picture or the scrap idea?

I had someone ask me this question over the long weekend---

do you take the pictures then view them all and see what you can scrap and what ideas come to you?

OR

do you have an idea for a scrap and try to take pictures to fit that idea?

to which i answered... dunno!

i guess i do a bit of both but just curious what others thought?

I do a bit of both. Sometimes I take pictures so that I can scrap a particular thing. For example, my son is doing baby signs since he doesn't talk yet. Yesterday I took pictures of him doing his signs for the express purpose of doing a LO.

The rest of the time, I just take pictures of EVERYTHING, and always have plenty of things to scrap. I will admit that since I'm on several creative teams, there are many times that I try to fit the picture(s) to the kits I'm wanting to use. Great question!

I do a little of both too.

For example- I saw a great layout with a sparkler in the daylight. I'm gonna take my kiddos outside this afternoon and take some similar photos- all for the sake of scrapping it! LOL.

Usually though I have the photo first, but I'm open to being the crazy parent who stages photo ops on a regular basis. LOL.

It's definitely both for me - if I see something scrapped that I want to try, I'll go out and shoot a similar shot. I also find as I'm taking pictures on vacation that I shoot particular things such as signs for the sole purpose of scrapping. But I also take lots of pictures that become scraps later after I've seen a particular kit or challenge that it fits.

I mostly start out with the picture but for my last trip, a lot of people asked me why I would go there. It reminded me of a quote by Robert Frost, "Two roads diverged in a woods, and I, I took the one less traveled by and that has made all the difference". So when I spotted a road with two paths, you bet I had picture of me taken in front of it with this quote!
