Red face Konica Minolta DimageZ6

I'm pretty new with this camera, but I have a question. I have it set to the 2816 x 2112 pixel size and fine (high quality), so why when I download and I get into Adobe, the photo is 72 resolution? I thought I had to have 300 in order to print out, should I not worry so much about the resoultion and just the size (quality)?

At 72dpi your image would have a physical measurement ( inches or centimeters of about 36 inches by 27 inches - Im guessing your layouts arent that big All you need to do is manually change the resolution.
In Photoshop, all you need to do is go to Image > Image Size (uncheck Resample Image) and change the resolution to 300dpi, or in DIP and I am guessing other programs you should have an Image Size option that allows you to change the resolution. If you let me knwo which program you are working in I can be more specific.
Some photos open by default at the 72dpi reading. I have never found an answer as to why.(anyone else?) I can open my Nikon photos in any program and they automatically open at 300ppi but my mothers Olympus always opens at 72ppi and I have to manually change the resolution.

HTH

BTW Read this article to learn more about how resolution and pixel size are interelated http://scrapbook-bytes.com/cgi-scrip...icle_285.shtml

Thanks SO much for the info, I printed out the tutorial, too! I guess I had it in my head that you couldn't change the resolution after you took the pic and my daughter's downloaded pics always had 300 res, it was just driving me batty thinking I was doing something wrong!! I'm using PSE3 and just changed the image size as suggested. Thanks, again, for the the info and quick response -- I don't feel so batty anymore!!

Usually, this is only controlled by the software.. there is a default to how the photos will open.
