Question Camcorder recommendation

Hi everyone.

I guess this is somehwat photography related. I am looking for a new camcorder as a possible Father's Day/birthday gift for DH. We currently have a Panasonic that records to VHS-C format. Some things I don't like about it are the size and the fact that it never wants to work at the beach because of humidity levels.

I'd like the new one to record direct to DVD (not mini-DVD), have a good zoom and image stabilizer, and be somehwat compact realizing that not going mini DVD format probably adds some size. The ability to shoot still with it is not a priority.

Let me know if you have one you love or what to look for.

Thanks in advance,
Barb

I say you might want to avoid these.. even the latest round of DVD videocameras have quirks and are in general not as good as their mini-DV counterparts.. size/cost and non transparency of use are the main complaints.. its not just record, pop into player and watch on TV.

In any event.. check out these reviews:

Thanks Pesto. I did some more research as well and I do think we'll need to wait a little longer until their time has come. Fortunantely, I came up with a new idea of a fire bowl for our deck since this weather is really not feeling like summer yet.

Thanks so much for the links.
