Nikon D50

Hi!

I have a Nikon D50 it came with an 18-55 lense. My husband just bought me a new lense for mother's day it is 55-200. I really like it but it is not Nikon it is quatran or something like that.
The lense has a 30 days trial, would it be better sticking with Nikon lenses? I want to find a lense that I do not have to replace much, one that gives me wide angle as well as close- up capabilities. THis one lense though the 55-200 took some amaizing pictures, but the wide angle is not as good as the D50, is there something in between?

Thank you all!
Ana

I've got the same camera, but mine came with 2 lenses...28-80 and 70-300, both Nikon brand. It is a bit of a pain to be switching back and forth. We actually had the macro lense to begin with but had to return that one cause the flash burnt out and they didn't have the same package Anyway, have you delved into the manual yet? I'm almost certain it would say Nikon brand lenses are recommended, but that's probably to get your $$. The best thing to do is go to the cammy shop and try them out. Usually they're very helpful if they think they might get money outta ya! Good luck!

Thank you!!! Yes, I have read the manual. I am totally confused, does your camera have the Optimizer disabled or enabled? It seems like it is a good feature to try as the manual explains it, but it is not enabled in my camera????

I think my flash burned out also.. because it is yellow now instead of white!

The D50 does not have any optimization.. the 55-200 quanteray is a basic beginner lens.. but sounds like it is just fine for your needs. If your flash is now yellow.. that's not good. I would return it to the store while under warranty. The camera body has nothing to did with the wide angle of the lens.. your 18-55 is wide angle at 18 and mid-range tele at 55.. if you want a real nice one lens for the D50.. look into the Nikon 18-200.. but expect to pay at least $700 for it. Read the manual and i suggest you buy the Thom Hogan guide to the D50... it will help you.
