I dont think my camera does all that... I have cannon powershot A 300

You are correct, I also have a Canon Powershot S60 and it does allow me to shoot in AV mode, but even if I set my aperture to the largest opening, I still cannot get the blurred effect that I do with my 300D. Even with my f/stop set to the lowest number it won't isn't as blurred as the photo in the example. I think I got this effect because I was using a zoom lens and because of my aperture setting. So results will really vary on this technique. I hope I didn't confuse anyone on this!
